We had a major, major problem here as a result of someone collecting empties for his "collection/crafts", and a lot of people got absolutely screwed. This was shortly before your time, but just for future reference, it's best if maybe we leave the empties out of it, and at home or at the redemption site. Just a heads up. Good luck.
Thanks for the heads up, I am truly trying to collect all 70 bottles or so since 2003. I appreciate the notice, likely won’t make any trades due to shipping cost and the potential of getting taken.
I collect certain bottles too - usually particularly rare/special ones that I drink. I'm not accusing you of anything at all. I think some people just might take it the wrong way, and it could bring back some bad memories and concern from some of the people who were affected by this dirtbag. Most people probably aren't looking to move their empties anyway, if they even still have them. I might suggest looking on eBay - often there are tons of empties (for questionable reasons), so it might cost you less than trading for them. Reception sites are locations where you are paid for bringing your plastic and glass bottles and aluminium cans for recycling. There are only 10 or so states that do it, so IL may not participate. Shipping can definitely get costly, and that's certainly something to consider, but for the most part, these are good people. There are bad eggs everywhere, but they've always been few and far between around here. A few people, myself included, have had some bad experiences, but it isn't the norm at all, and trading can be a fantastic way to meet amazing people, make friends, and try some awesome beers you otherwise might not have the chance to. Don't be too quick to give up on it! I think if you don't have any luck with your,BCBS empties, try sticking around awhile, participate in the forums, get to know the community, and I would bet eventually, you could find someone who'd be willing to help you out. Either way, best of luck! Welcome to BeerAdvocate!
