ISO: top 250 whale - closed

Probably so...Perhaps throw some that you're interested in obtaining.
Utopia's ran about $250 in my neck of the woods so it should get you something good.

 

I could see maybe pulling a BBT b1 if someone was really committed to getting a Utopias, but that would be it. Good luck, in any case!

 

It's important to be realistic when ISO a whale. Most of your list are bottles that are brewery only releases & in small bottle counts. Utopias is a hard to find bottle in some areas but it does see national distribution. It's also important to remember that just because you pay a lot of money for a bottle on a retail level it doesn't mean you'll see a huge mark up on the secondary evaluation. @antrocks don't let others tell you how to trade. There are actually some very kind and generous people in the trade forums. They're harder to find these days, but if you keep up it, I don't doubt youll find someone who would be willing to do this just to help you out. Don't give up because of other people's ideas of "secondary value". If someone here has multiple bottles of any of these, I don't see why they wouldn't do it. From a 1:1 retail value standpoint, you're the generous one. If I were so lucky to have ANY of these, I would do it, and probably throw an extra in because I'd feel bad about the cost gap. Some areas of the country don’t see distribution of Utopias and others can’t get bottles higher than an certain ABV. I don’t see why it doesn’t have trade value.

 

I completely understand. I've met many generous people who aren't in it for the money, hype, or secondary value. I've been on both the giving and receiving end of trades that many people wouldn't even believe. It's a shame hype, secondary value, artificial rarity, and as of recently, bourbon dictate the majority of trades, but at the end of the day, it is a community, and it's all about the beer, and it's only beer - and hopefully you'll make a few friends along the way. Keep up the search, and do what you think is fair, and pay no mind to the opinions of others, because they're just that. You may just encounter that one generous trader who wants to help you out. I've been searching for a Utopias trade for sure, but no way in hell would I trade BBT b1 for it.

 

I have 2x Mornin Delight bottles from the 2019 release....

 

I could see him pulling a BBADL for Utopias, depending on the year.

Maybe even 18 Maman if someone was motivated enough.

 

I don't agree with the direction the community has gone. When I first got into it years ago there were a few good people who welcomed me & shared bottles that I had no idea even existed. However, we now live in a day where money matters & that is what I hate most. If you think this website & members are bad you should check out Facebook. Those people are animals.

Should Utopias pull a whale? Yes, by retail value it should definitely pull a whale. A $250 bottle should most definitely outweigh a $50 bottle. Unfortunately we live in a world where it doesn't. Things changed a few years ago when one idiot payed $1,008 for KBBS.

Let's look at the whiskey to beer ratio. BTAC bottles can go as high as $120 retail & yet they can go 1:1 with a bottle of beer that's $50. These whiskeys can last for years just like, Utopias & yet some people think their $50 bottle of beer should be viewed higher. It makes no sense to me but it is what it is.

That's when you pick & choose your battles & how you approach a trade. I have a bottle of WLW & I would never trade it for a bottle of KBBS because I think that's just stupid. I wouldn't even trade it for 2 bottles of KBBS because I can enjoy the WLW many of times of the years where as with the KBBS I could only have once or twice. Hell, I wouldn't even trade a Weller FP for a KBBS because it just doesn't make sense to me.

Now, if I had a Utopias, I would keep it & enjoy it because it'll last for a long time after opening it. Is the market fair? Not even a little. Does it make sense? Not in the slightest. But it is what it is. The newer people tick off what they can & trade **** when they can.

I do hope that OP can get what he's looking for. However, at the end of the day he has a very nice bottle in hand that I'm sure he can & will enjoy many times over than what he could if he got a 2nd hand bottle off of his list. Personally, I would love to try them too but I'm not willing to give up what the holders are asking for.
