took a trip there a few months ago to visit family and while they still have a ways to go, i was surprised at the number of microbreweries they have over there. definitely lean more toward belgian styles as those are the type of beers gaining the most popularity there. jem's 8-8 which was a tripel stood out to me. alexander ipa was the best ipa i tried. beer highlight of the trip was being able to find maresdous 10 at any bar and the great selection of belgians at the liquor stores. i can't really find la guillontine here and it was readily available over there
I've had the la guillotine. Its by the company that puts out Delirium Tremens same style bottle. They have it at Heights Beer & Wine Emporium on 69 rt 17 new jersey. I enjoy Belgians so that's good to know, if I'm over there at some point. ~Shalom~
I'm pretty sure I had Guillotine in Brooklyn. I think it's around, though not commonly seen. And the only Israeli beer I am familiar with, so far, is Tank. I'm always down to try anything; especially from an under the radar craft producing country.
Never had an Israeli beer but I'd love to try one for the simple and maybe geeky fact that Israel is pretty damn close geographically, to the region of the world that started brewing beer in the beginning of civilization.
Eh. I dunno. In Mexico when I was there I was happy to drink León, Indio, Negra Modelo and so on. But if I'd found Cucapá or some other Mexican craft beer, would I have been excited? Hell yes. But I didn't. Same with Goldstar. It's really nothing special. It's just all they have most places.
Its different than that. Hard to explain really, but the best way I can put is that goldstar to me means more than just beer. Its the fact that in the middle of all the conflict the region has had, theres still people out there making beer... Probably sounds ridiculous.
Yep. There is craft beer in Israel. Some is good. I prefer my homebrew. If I buy beer it is usually imported.
Let's keep this focused on beer and the OPs question please vs. getting reports from those wishing to post snark/political views and wasting our time. Thanks.
I was last in Israel in 2006 and was not quite into craft beer yet. I know that there was a lot readily available though, especially Belgians. I remember when I did my alcohol shopping in Tel Aviv how many Belgians were lining the walls of the shops. Being that I was on the cusp of 21 however and more concerned with what I wanted to drink while partying, I opted for cheap liquors. However, Israel doe produce some pretty fine wines...
Thought I'd post this here; the BBC just put out a short video discussing the state of affairs among Israeli microbreweries. Sounds like a planned tax rise might cause problems for a few of them. Vid here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22321727 Interesting to see the primitive labelling system that one of them has going on!
