Shane, is the rationale for pasteurizing these beers the export market?

    Cheers!

yes, and for any off-premise consumption for that matter....our cans say "keep refrigerated" but as we all know many store owners keep the beer out on a room temperature shelf

Shane, my local beer stores do not store the bulk of their beer refrigerated. That is not too big of a deal at my local retail beer distributors right now since it is real cold in their now. It does suck in the summer though since they do not keep it cool then.

It is my understanding that the vast majority of craft breweries do not pasteurize their beers. Is that a correct understanding?

    Cheers!

I can't say with certainty as to the percentages. But do to the explosion in mobile canning, I would not be surprised if the majority are not.

Its a ticking time bomb - too many people are in a rush to get packaged product out the door, with many of the beers unfermented, unfiltered, and unpasteurized. There are limited issues if the product is consumed within days, but now that you're seeing these show up on store shelves...its just a matter of time before there are widespread issues and complaints unless the production protocols are modified drastically.

Perhaps more literal than you know. We've had a few local breweries bring in cans that had expanded to look like hand grenades. The dangers of terminating fermentation and leaving yeast in the beer. When it warms up fermentation can continue, creating much larger "quality" problems.
