I had the dreaded FEDEX delivery EXCEPTION today on a trade box. I know I overpacked the box as in put too many bottles in. I was just too lazy to get a bigger bog. I called FEDEX care, they called the location and lo and behold they are shipping it to my trading partner instead of sending it back to me. I guess I got lucky. Apparently they didn't open it because I was asked what was in the box. I said Olive oil and gourmet pickles. She said that the box smelled like cologne. Hmm hate to smell the cologne she gets for her husband if my broken beer smelled like cologne.
Just fyi, Delivery Exceptions aren't the end of the world. They certainly don't mean something has broken. In 100+ trades I've had only a handful of Delivery Exceptions. Only one was from a broken bottle that I received in trade. The others were the result of a delay on the delivery... the boxes arrived the following day.
Sorry if I am intruding, But can someone please explain a Fed ex Shipping Exception? Just for my future knowledge. Thank you in advance
I got an exception today with Fedex. Says the box was delayed and will be delivered tomorrow. Not sure why since it was on Fedex vehicle for delivery before the exception.
"Hmm hate to smell the cologne she gets for her husband if my broken beer smelled like cologne." If the cologne she gets for her husband smells like your broken beer, sounds like a good choice to me......[spills Founders Porter on girlfriend]
THey "exception" it if they have to change the delivery date. I had a box exceptioned one day then it was on track the next day with a later delivery date
I had it happen twice to the same person, the first time was because a beer busted and they sent it back to me. The second time was because the driver wasn't able to get to it before the days end and it was on a Saturday so it wasn't delivered till Monday. I felt bad but my trading partner got some more extras out of it and everything was fine
I just thought mine was weird because at 6am it was on the truck for delivery, then at 10am it has an exception. Maybe the driver got sick or was in an accident or something.
Anytime there's an issue with the shipment of the package, it usually results in a shipping exception. They're not always due to catastrophic events like a bottle breaking, etc. A shipping exception can be triggered by a box being dropped off at a FedEx Office location after the last pickup has occurred. They have a list of possible reasons on the FedEx website.
It usually says when you get the exception what it is for. It also sends an exception notice if your recipient requests to hold the package at their local facility. My heart always stops on those when I see the email title before reading the message.
I often get Delivery Exceptions because the Fedex drivers in my area rarely will leave a package in a lobby, and I work during the day so I'm not around to sign for the boxes. Fedex will leave a little sticky note on the door with a slot to sign for the box, and they'll just leave it the next day. But just today they postponed a box a second time despite the fact that I had signed their note
this exception explicitly said package was damaged. Its all good the box was delivered and it was just a 12oz that broke.
I would tell the driver that "(my) life is in your hands, dude" but I think the reference might be lost on him...
