Can someone explain them to me? On my bottle it says: 654-658 140129 It's pretty loaded with sediment but still tastes fantastic. Can someone explain this to me?
My guess would be Jan. 29, 2014. The 14 is the year (2014), 01 is the month (January), and 29 is the day of the month.
I'm pretty sure the date is year/month/day and a bottled on date. I don't think the first line means anything to consumers
Should be the months of the year on the side of the label with a notch out telling you when it's best by.
My last case must have been bottled during the transition period - notched (MAR) and ink-jet printed on shoulder (131213) - as well as the standard "Bottled On" date stamped on the case - which is what I always go on. Sad to see another brewer* switch from one faulty dating mechanism to another - while the notching system was confusing -it was "Best Before" not "By" - and inexact since the notches weren't alway lined up right and they lacked a year (I watched some other Ithaca beers like their Apricot (is it?) Wheat "lap itself" by sitting on the shelf for over a year), it took looking at quite a few different bottles of FP before I found a complete and legible stamp on one. I imagine one might have to check every bottle in a sixpack to figure out all six digits of the date. * (Victory the other).
I would love for some breweries to jump on a thread and explain why they can't print date in an easy to read, human date. Vote with your wallet people. When purchasing beer my preference goes to breweries that bottle date in a way that I can see and understand. Actually lately since more breweries are popping up on Long Island I am buying growlers straight from breweries and less from stores.
That has also happened to me. I picked up a sixpack of cold front and thought "what are they trying to do here?" Last time I was in the store though I took a gander at the flower power and they were still using the notches on the label. Best by May.
Why just doesn't every brewery follow stones suit and put the enjoy by date as the name of the beer? </sarcasm>
Its year/month/day. Im looking at a case from nov 25 now. Seems like they are jumping around with the dating. Nov is bottle dated, but my case bottled dec 23 wasnt. Both still using the notched label.
When I'm home a buy by the case, and the date is stamped on the case, I'd never buy a broken case this brew is more time sensitive than most.
I'm aware. As I said, if the stamps go by the same as the old Notch system, it's a best by date, so count 3 months back for the packed date.
My guess is that 654-658 is the batch numbers of the beer. Sometimes a brewery will bottle more than one batch at a time.
Come on man. We all have computers in our pockets these days. If you can't figure out a date, google usually can.
