Last year this was easily one of our top new beers of the year. It was essentially an amped up version of flower power. Incredible aroma and citrus flavor when we had it on tap (I did not get to try it in bottles last year). On Friday I was super excited to grab a box of hops and when we opened one we were disappointed. Gone was any trace of hop aroma, the flavor was very earthy and one note. No more tropical fruit bomb at all. Did anyone else notice the same? There is no way this is the same recipe as last year.

They have a different brewer than the one that brewerd last years.

I can't remember, what were the details behind this?

No I know they changed brewers but thus far I haven't noticed a difference in the regular rotation beers and several of the taproom only beers we've had have been solid. You would think Ithaca would be able to dial in a bit closer to last years recipe, new brewer of not.

Apparently there was some controversy over luminous and some of the sours. Owners weren't on board so two of the higher up brewers left.

Just bought the "Box of Hops" last night and cracked Creeker this afternoon during another horrible Jets loss. Creeker tasted as good as ever. There was a slight discernible difference from last year, most likely from the change in brewers and their techniques, but it wasn't a bad thing. Flower Power, however, has seemed to have fallen off and become a shadow of its former self. Rustic Harvest was good, but Double Zilla (and Casca Zilla) were such a better offer. Ithaca is starting to lose me as a customer.

So we have one thumb down and one thumb up. Hopefully they have this on tap at the brewery this week so's I can judge for myself.

Funny I had Creeker for first time yday, so nothing to judge it by. So far Creeker and Dark Vine are the best of a box that is less than overhwelmingly great. Creeker more my style so I enjoyed it more, but Dark Vine was a pleasant surprise.

That said, and tangential to topic, Flower Power in this box is the weakest FP I ever remember drinking. I mean, it still has that wonderful mouthfeel, but the hoppiness and understated bitter it used to have are all changed to my palate, weaker, more bitter, less tasty.

So, did Creeker used to be better than this? Guess I didn't break the tie?

I really enjoyed the Creeker in last year's box (didn't get the box, just sucked off the taps at the brewery). It was top notch. Going to grab a soccer ball and a frisbee and chill with my son at the brewery. Root beer for the boy, Creeker for the dad. More later...

I'm a schmuck. The taproom is closed Monday and Tuesday. Got some decent pumpkins on the way, at least.

The Creeker is a different recipe this year. I'm not positive how much different but I heard they added mosaic hops to the recipe. That being said, I thought it was good. If you want a killer double ipa from the brewer who did the first creeker, go to Nedloh and get the trademark ipa. That was outstanding

I agree it is good, BUT I like to think my wife and I have pretty discerning palates when it comes to ipas and we both instantly thought it was nowhere near the same beer.

Creeker was still good this year, IMO, but not the same as last year. I found it more bitter, a bit boozy, and not the big ol' citrus bomb it was last year. Haven't dove into Dark Vine or Rustic Harvest yet, though.

I too, would take every opportunity to move from Upstate NY to San Diego.
On a serious note, I'm sorry they lost two great brewery, it looked like the brewery was getting back to unique projects that made them one of the early stars of the NYS brewing scene.

Just picked up the Box of Hops outside Philly. Had the FP and is was good (bottling date of 10/16)...but I found it to be a bit weaker in depth than previous versions. Now on to the Creeker which I loved last year. Sipping on it now and I have to say it's just not the same as last year...which I loved. The addition of the mosaic hops...and maybe the new brewers...has left us with a much different Creeker in 2014. A good DIPA...but just not the creamy, citrus bomb I enjoyed last year. This year's version is much drier and it leaves a bit more alcohol on the palate. The more I sip on it...the more I find myself thinking it is getting similar to Dirt Wolf...and one of the reason's I loved the Creeker last year....is that it stood out from many of the other DIPA's available to me in Pennsylvania. I drank a lot of Box of Hops last year...when it was fresh. I got a feeling that this 12-pack may well be the only one for this year. Have not tried the Harvest Red or Dark Vine...but those styles are not my favorite. I know Double Zilla did not get a lot of love...but I really liked it and miss it.

Oh well, I guess I can now wait to the next big release for me...Victory's Hop Ranch. That had better be the @)&#^*(&%@ same!!
