As an out of towner who is travelling to Seattle and just happen to be arriving the Thursday of Sourfest, what sort of Shit show are we talking about? Was planning on heading to Brouwers after doing some touristy stuff since I am only in town for one day but now im starting to get nervous that my plan of getting to Brouwers at 2-3 might not be that great.

    Cheers

i think you'll be fine at 2-3. the 11am crowd will be thinning at this point, and as others noted, the line-up is somewhat of a letdown compared to past years so turnout may not be as crazy as it usually is. you might not be able to grab a seat at the bar, but i'd be surprised if there was a line to get in.

FWIW - if 2014 is an indicator, arriving at 2-3pm will result in a significant wait outdoors. If you have one day in Seattle, that's not how I'd recommend spending it

In years past it has been really busy and usually gets full right away when they open at 11am and by 2-3pm there is a big line with a long wait. I am thinking this year may not be as crazy as years past but the past couple years Sourfest has become one the most popular events at Brouwers. If you are going solo it is not too bad, but if you have a group of people you are pretty much screwed unless you get there before 11am...good luck

As with any event in Seattle Beer Week (or any other similar grouping of events), the only real strategy is to play a day behind and drink leftovers and relative solitude. You may miss out on a #walezbro, but you'll save a bit of sanity

Thanks for all the input everyone. Might just have to move things around and show up at opening...

    Cheers

FWIW, you would absolutely not have been fine at 2-3 last year. There was still a ridiculously long line up the block at that time. This event is an absolute-skip for me. I'll grab leftovers on Friday.

You'll want to be there an hour before opening or so. Arriving at 11am may set you up for failure

If anyone has digested the schedule and wants to share what they consider to be "can't miss" events, I'd appreciate hearing your opinions. I'd be most interested in sours, wilds, and beer from breweries not usually available locally. Less interested in barrel aged stouts and barleywines, only because that's what I consume pretty regularly. Also, weekdays and Mother's Day (5/10) are out for me. Basically looking for an event or two in the evening or weekend that I might be able to plan around. Not really interested in standing in lines either, though I don't know if that is realistic.

i don't have any personal "can't miss" events, but i think pine box 5/15 (melvin brewing) fits a lot of your criteria. i'll most definitely be there.

Might be headed down to Naked City for the washers tournament. Not that I care about washers, but, it's as good an excuse as any to go hang at NC.

No Loons and a solid but unspectacular line up this year, so my guess is it will be much less of a wait. If your an out of towner check it out , great place. #noshitshowsinWA

Probably can't make that as we have a 6 p.m. Mariners/Red Sox game (school PTA event) and we'll probably be taking the bus downtown early. Maybe I'll try to get over to Brouwer's on 5/15 and see if there are any leftover sours on tap.

I just tasted the 3 Headed Hop Monster IIPA collaboration beer we brewed with Melvin Brewing and Boneyard, it came out very nice. 9.5% ABV, 90+ IBU.

Don't know, but I talked with Justin last night, and it looks there's nothing interesting enough to put the effort in. He'll be down for a belated mother's day, but I'm not sure if I wanna put the effort in.

3 headed hop monster ruled. real impressed with melvin brews, looking forward to trying more on friday @ pine box.

speaking of pine box, looks like de garde is no longer a part of the yeast mode forum. bummer, but i'll likely still be there.

I really liked Three Headed Hop Monster. My first exposure to Melvin was at Hop Fest this past Fall. Good stuff.
