I don't know much about anything so my opinion here could be way off, but I think that the amendment added to the bill could actually cause the whole thing to go up in flames here. I'd be surprised if grocery stores would want to incur the cost of renovating their stores to meet the demands of the new bill, so they might start fighting against it. That's why the hard liquor thing being behind a shelf could actually derail the whole bill. Will be interesting to watch moving forward. There are many people way more familiar with this kind of stuff than I am though so would be interested in hearing what others might think.

I don't understand the point. The liquor is already out now. I think this is just a way for the package stores to fight the bill. The added rules are really pointless.

Now if we could just get beer to be sold cold in stores other than the package stores.

Total bs. This bill is a joke. I am sorry to say that it should never be passed. I guess that I will continue to be my beer on Sat. Lets hope that Sun King and 3 Floyds have better luck.

Time to change the thread title to "It's looking Indiana to Indiana." I lived in several states in my life and a couple of other countries and I've never seen a state so resistant to change. I'm so looking forward to exaggerating how much I love Daylight Savings Time.

Time to get pitchforks and torches and remember this next election, especially if your local representative was not on board.

This also seems to make it less likely that the production limits will be lifted.

Retail stores: "We don't want to have to pay employees"

Grocery stores: "We don't want to have to modify our stores"

That is the situation in a nutshell

Simple solution: If liquor stores don't want to open on Sunday they don't have to.

The stuff with retail stores is just Grade A bullshit.

I won't disagree. Saying that you don't want to pay employees or hire more people is not a stance many people would take, at least publicly. One of the biggest sore spots for retailers is that there is a law that says that liquor store majority ownership has to reside in Indiana, to keep business and profits local. This law has blocked companies like Binny's and Total Wine from coming into Indiana for years. If groceries are able to basically become liquor stores with immense buying power that law totally goes out the window.

Still having an issue as to what the problem is...when I go to Germany/Europe practically everything is closed on Sundays so we stock up on Saturday as well. Always rule of thumb is to buy what I need for Sunday on Saturday and not drink so much on Friday evening that I can't function enough on Saturday to purchase what I need. If all else fails then I guess I will just have to settle with going to Crown Brewing, 18th St., Devils Trumpet, FFF, New Oberpfalz, Four Fathers, or one of the many breweries....to get growlers or to-go.

Yeah honestly I don't get what the big deal is other than additional revenue for the state.

I personally think it has contributed to the higher prices we see as Hoosiers for similar products. I also think it hurts those packaging breweries that should have access to market every day of the week.

The ultimate gripe though: a few rich fucks banded together and have created poor public policy. I'm not in favor of a few rich folks getting to trump business and competition.

It's just common sense at this point. I can't buy a sixer on Sunday when my wife and I do our grocery shopping, but I can drive to a strip joint, get drunk, and drive home.

I understand what you are saying however, in the end support your local wineries and breweries. Soon enough you will be able to include your local distilleries in which case it will no longer be an issue. If you are that bent out of shape that you cannot get your MD 40/40, Boons, Coors, PBR, or Natty Light on Sunday then perhaps we need to have a different discussion.

I never said I wasn't supporting those places. I can buy multiple Indiana breweries at the grocery store.

What if I don't want to buy local? Find me someone in Indiana brewing a Zwickel (I drink more Zwickel than about anything these days) on par with Urban Chestnuts. I support geographically close breweries often, but they are not the be all end all for me.

It is simple common sense here. This law serves at the pleasure of very few to the detriment of many. It doesn't make sense.

Yep...understood. I guess I have just accepted the fact and moved on, perhaps one of these years the law will be lifted. Until then I am going to drink the crap out of Indiana's finest libations.

Cheers fellow Indianian (sorry went to Purdue so can't use the H word)!
