Working week over, time to relax ... dabbling in the Ukraine match

I'll open the festivities with something from off the beaten track ... Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel - "Aphrodisiaque" a 6.5% vanilla stout

WTH?? Grey, windy ,raining and maxing out at a blistering 9C all weekend?? Kill me now.
Time for some stout propellant. Inspiried by the other current BA UK thread, I'll be indulging into some Paradox (Arran cask in nature) tonight.

It's not so bad here in Surrey, 16C sun and clouds the odd 5/10 min shower!

Paradox ... would like to have one of those tonight

Whenver I'm on BOE it's out of stock!

Have only had it once but that was on Cask ... so I'll keep that experience over a number of bottles thanks!

Already had a Nethergate Old Growler tonight. Wasn't bad, nor particularly good either.

I'm a bit of a wine buff to be honest but those calories end up being pretty equally distributed between the grain and the grape.

I'm fond of my red and happy to blow a lot more £££ on a good bottle of vino than on beer as a rule

Re - calories, I'd always taken a bottle of 13-15% red to be around 500 calories

My limit would be 2 ish bottles so around 1,000 cals

With beer I call it around 200 to 250 cals be it a pint of 4-5% or a small bottle of something 8/9/10%

Where as I'll hit around 1,000 cals on red wine, with beer I can exceed 2,000 easily enough so I view the grape as less cals than the grain!

Howdy all. It was chucking it down on the drive home - a sign of things to come? I've commenced the evening's imbibing with a Pilsner Urquell.

The problem with wine for me is that I only ever drink it with a meal and the meal tends to be extravagant, multi coursed and calorific. Not a fan of the New World as a rule and tend to stick with red Burgundy, and classed Bordeaux which is never cheap. Thank god I'm well stocked for the future.

Nice. In the not too distant future I intend do a little taste test between Jever and Pilsner Urquell. Wish I'd done it 25 years ago though.

Sure did. I think a win over Sweden just might be the psychological victory England really needs.

I probably swing the other way!

Love my full bodied reds, Australians, Californians, South Africans the big 14-15% boys - rich and fruity

Never a fan of French always have to spend a lot of £££ to get the same satisfaction I can derive from a more moderately priced new worlder

Also enjoy a bit of Italian and like my Rioja Reserva's/Gran Reserva's

Pretty fond of Piedmont wines (Nebbiolo is top notch) and INMO Spain produces probably the best everyday wine anywhere today. Superb value. Not a big fan of Californian wines in general with a few exceptions (Ridge, Marimar Torress, Hanzell). The pre 1980 Californian wines I have tasted tell me the Robert Parker should have been stopped sometime before 1982. What could have been. And Australia, well, its what pushed me into wine in the first place. But I've only had a couple of thrills in recent years. Mind you, they were some pretty impressive thrills.
