I made a few like this; and i agree. Perfect shape caps, for doing things with afterwards.
I used plain old 1x2, cut about 6 inches long, rounded out the ends, and used sheet metal screws. Just had to make sure I got the ones with flat underside of the head. I did stain them and drilled a hole for lanyards, which I still have to get around to putting on.

The ones I make blacksmithing does no damage at all to the caps.

I really like the ones that your making! I have thought about making a forge for years now. I would like to be able to hammer out my own knives, but I'm running out of room for tools.

The Brewbicle one is my favorite, Made out of good quality wood, has a magnet, and takes caps off without damaging them

I have 3 of these around my living room/kitchen. Work great... never had an issue with dented caps. They're like $10 for stainless steel at just about any kitchen store. Gotta have a corkscrew to open 'loons, bro!

My actual favorite is the one I bought from the BA store a few years ago (fits nicely in the back pocket for portability between needs). However, the Bottle Board looks interesting. May have to invest. (easily found on Google.)

I picked up a gropener and it's my current favorite, magnetic one handed opener and no bend in caps
