I was anxious to try Lawson's Sip of Sunshine (contract brewed DIPA by Two Roads brewery in CT) when it was introduced, and I found the $8 price of the 12 oz. draft to be a tad pricey, but I tried it and thought it was good beer, but certainly nowhere NEAR the quality of Lawson's famous Double Sunshine.
When the buzz got out that "Sip" was hitting the shelves of stores in time for Brewers Festival in Burlington,VT July 2014, I wanted to pick some up (160 cases of 12 22oz bombers was delivered to Beverage Warehouse: compare this volume to the typical delivery of 12 cases of the hand crafted Lawson's beer made in Vermont), that is until I discovered the price tag of $9 a bottle (some retailers sold it for $8 in fairness), the SAME price as Double Sunshine!
When I went to pick up my weekly single of Lawson's yesterday (1 bottle limit for the Vermont made Lawson's), I had the opportunity to buy up to SIX bottles of Sip of Sunshine, but I didn't buy a single one (most people walking around the store were carrying 1 bottle of Lawson's Knockout Blonde, and 6 bottles of Sip of Sunshine). When someone tried to grad 6 Sip and dropped one on the floor, I overheard someone remark "THAT is a TRAGEDY!" while another remarked "No big deal, it isn't like it was REAL Lawson's, just another contract brew!" . I had to smile: someone else understood how I felt as I walked out with my lone bottle of delicious Lawson's Knockout Blonde Ale!
P.S. Beercationers be cautioned: there are some busy VT establishments advertising Sip of Sunshine on their menu of draft beer as "VERMONT" beer, don't be duped.

If you could drink them at all, you aren't a beer snob.

edit: This is what I get for posting before reading more than the OP... not only did someone beat me to this line, but we have also already gone over the difference between "beer geek/advocate" and "beer snob" ... and I agree 100% with the distinction.

I do have one thing to add, and that is "beer nerd", which I distinguish from "beer geek" thusly:

A beer geek is someone who "geeks out" over beer, they're totally into craft, love the big releases, chase good beer, go to breweries etc.

A beer nerd (usually also a beer geek) is someone who gets into the science of it as well, these are often homebrewers, and are those that care to do reviews (or at least brief commentary, in my case I have 0 reviews but my untappd is full of thoughtful comments), compare flavor profiles, and are the people who can differentiate not just one style from another but one hop from another, etc.

Beer Snob, does that mean if I get up at 2:00 am and drive 200 miles to stand in line to get a ticket to get what ever Lawson's is selling at the farmers market makes me a Beer Snob than I am. The fact that I have only great beers in my cellar like Heady, Second Fiddle, Triple Sunshine, Dinner and Lunch. I would say I am!

Once waited in line to get into a respected brewery's taproom, finally got in, looked at the beer menu and left without having anything because it was just all of their standard stuff. Promptly headed for another taproom. I guess that makes me a beer snob.

My in-laws are coming over in two hours for a BBQ and I have a case of Bud Light iced down for them that I'll happily serve without demeaning comment. As I was setting up the cooler, I reminded myself, "just because you prefer higher quality beer doesn't mean you have to be a beer- asshole."

Are you a beer snob if you're at a free beer tasting and you judge the guy who comes in looking for cider?

    If yes, consider me snob!

You are officially not a beer snob until you plan trips and vacations around beer. I am proud to be one. Cheers!

A friend of mine singled me out, calling me a "beer snob" at a graduation party. I'm far from one.

What would be considered more snobbish - Refusing to drink the beer at a party because is was not up to your standards or refusing to eat what was being served at a dinner party because it did not pair well with the beer you brought?

That is moved from geek to advocate.

I play in pool tournaments. The place I frequent the best beer they have is MGD. I rarely drink when I'm there playing because it's kills my soul to drink the shit I used to drink all the time.

I do. I scoff at any miscreant drinking Bud Light or a watered-down equivalent if a real beer is available.
