Super, super limted release. Definitely not enough made for growler fills. 9%. Absolutely F'n Phenomenal. I've been having a couple pints per day in the pub since they released it and it has become my favorite IPA. Better than Heady, Zombie, Pure Hoppiness, regular Nelson, you name it.

Did anyone else that tried it feel the same way?

I have a growler of it. I have had it fresh at the pub. It is amazing...I would take fresh Heady over it any day. I would also take Hoppy Birthday over it any day. Hoppy Birthday = Greatest Beer Evaaaaa Made!!! Keene Idea is wonderful but nothing to flip out over (like Hoppy Birthday).

Is it the new thing to try local or limited brews and claim that they're better than established, tried-and-true favorites?

I will reserve judgment until actually doing the comparison, but I find it hard to believe that in two days there have been two threads proposing a dethroning of the great IPAs/IIPAs at the hands of Real Boy and Keene Idea, relative nobodies in the beer world, as far as I have heard. Again, I'm not claiming those two don't stake a claim for the crown since I haven't had them, but I am quite skeptical.

It's not better then Bad Boy, nothing has been. Everytime i chase a hyped ipa/dipa that claims to be better i am let down.

Though you are from "alpine", please give your input, i am just dying to hear it.

The Bad Boy is great. Hoppy Bday is amazing. Actually I prefer almost any of Alpine's IPAs, with the exception to Obriens and Duet, to any other brewery's IPA I've had.

I really do like Zombie Dust and Heady also. Alot. However, my opinion of those beers is based off of the few I've received in trade. I understand that my limited sample size of Midwest IPAs affects this opinion.

There are also a number of other ringers out there I haven't had, so I don't claim that Keene Idea topples all of the giants on BA. I only claim it topples every one I've had. At least for me. It has the general flavor of a Nelson, but the punch of something heavier....I guess that is the 9% talking.

Thats your take and that's perfectly appropriate. For me, and I drink nothing but Alpine for the most part, I enjoyed this beer but I dont agree with your perspective at all. It's posts like these that are beginning to take their toll on a lot of folks. Every new limited release has to be the biggest, the best, the most, F'n Phenomenal, whether from Alpine or anyone else for that matter, and that in turn fuels the much despised hype machine. KI was good,I got some, I drank it. Does it live up to the hype..how can it ? And why do people always have to pit a good beer against another, is it to let us know you've had them. Sorry folks....its just beer.

    Cheers.....

It's really good, but there are a lot of really good ipa's out there now. If they follow the san diego approach which is high late hopping loads, very little/no cyrstal malt and completely out of balance to palete wrecking hoppiness (note this doesn't mean bitterness), then yeah, it'll reach the upper echelons of great IPA's.

If its some 'balanced' high bitter, crystal malt bomb..then no.

I am an ipa ***** and absolutely loved it. Shared a growler of it last night while watching the 49er game. Excellent excellent stuff. We followed that with a 750 ml grower of HF Abner which tasted almost boring and mundane in comparison. Keene Idea might now be my favorite ipa from Alpine. And i have tried em all multiple times.

I prefer Bad Boy to KI.

I also prefer Nelson to KI.

    Nelson is magic.

Nate from Toronado was saying that Keene Idea is not Double Nelson / Toro 25th.
    Yes / No?

It is, but he won't serve it to you unless you order Keane Idea.

But, some of the hops are slightly different and it's higher in ABV. So I guess you could argue that it is a different beer. Whatever, it's just fucking good. Order it.

Oh I did. I'd probably take Nelson / HB over it, but it was good.

KI definitely tastes a bit different than the initial T25 beer.

I feel like KI is more bitter and T25 was danker. Both are great beers of course.

I enjoyed this beer quite a lot. I don't listen to fools declaring a beer the Bestus IPA ever. I don't care if it is the most rare, makes Johnny Skinny Jeans get his trade, or if it has Yak sweat in it. I just wish I could go to any nearby brewery and ALWAYS get an IPA of this caliber to drink or get a growler of.

it's my favorite alpine ipa right now. in turn, probably my favorite ipa right now. it's way too drinkable for the abv.
i've been trading for growlers, and i'm a local :slight_frown:
