Since finding out about the Barrel Aged Framinghammers in which Jacks Abby has released, i have made several trips to the brewery to obtain them. I was under the impression that the 4 flavored variants were brewery only (Cocoa nut, PB&J, Coffee, and Vanilla) I was in a local packie the other day and saw Coffee and Vanilla on the shelf. Same label and everything, but i just noticed that it did not have the "barrel aged" sticker that went over the bottle caps on the coffee and vanilla. So i was wondering if anyone knew if JA released non-barrel aged versions of the Coffee and Vanilla. Or maybe JA had an excess amount of these 2 and started distributing to stores and just left out the BA stickers. I also couldnt find regular Coffee and Vanilla Framinghammers when i searched for them on Beer Advocate. Thanks! -xICooRsYIx
They are barrel aged. JA tweeted to me a while ago that the labels were misprinted. https://twitter.com/JacksAbby/status/443556558891659264
Yeah i was aware of the label misprint, but if you go to the brewery to get the beers, the coffee and vanilla have this ribbon sticker that says barrel aged that goes over the bottle cap. The Framinghammers at the store did not have these. Which let me to wonder if they released standard versions and distributed them. If they are the same then its safe to say ill be at that store first thing tomorrow to buy them all haha. -xICooRsYIx
All of the coffee/vanilla framinghammers have been barrel-aged and have been released to store shelves EXCEPT the very first batch which was Julio's only (and aged in Weller barrels I think?). That was an amazing batch, the more recent batches have much less barrel presence. Dope
If I understood correctly, the initial intention was not to have stickers at all... But after some customer confusion as to whether or not that last batch of coffee & vanilla was barrel-aged (based on the label alone), they had to add the sticker. The above updates are correct: All Coffee & Vanilla are barrel-aged. And I think everything in this series everything but the standard "Framinghammer" sees a barrel. And one thing is for sure... They're all delicious.
"I was under the impression that the 4 flavored variants were brewery only (Cocoa nut, PB&J, Coffee, and Vanilla)" I believe they said in early July that Cocoa-Nut and PB&J would be brewery only, unless they did not sell out, in which case it might go to stores; intention all along was to distro Coffee and Vanilla, as they have in the past.
Are the bottles hitting stores recently just some overstock from the last release? Doesn't the new batches come out next year
The bottles that I've purchased are all dated June--I bought June bottles in June, August, and September. From the look of the racks, the 6/12 batches will be around for a bit longer.
