are you coming down for a hit and run or are you going to stay the night?

you won't be buying bottles inside the taproom, bottle sales will be inside the brewery. there will be cattle runs inside (think of it like standing in line to ride the thunderbolt  ) to accommodate quite a few people (someone who was there at open last year can speak if it overflowed outside). As you make your way through the line, there will be places to buy pours, which is awesome and bad at the same time.. buy the time I got to actually buy the bottles, I had downed 3 full pours, and was feeling pretty warm lol.. it's amazing how it helps in the willingness to spend money on beer

as was posted, it's going to be damn cold.. so last year, I bought bottles and hung around the taproom until I could check into my hotel, and unloaded all the beer into my room. then it's just a matter of mapping out what special taps you want to hit across the 3 places.

it will be quite busy, so make note of the parking maps posted. don't worry about having to lug cases around, people with dollies are more than willing to help get the beer to your car.

parking downtown sucks. if you aren't staying over, you can green cab (the Athens version of Uber) from the brewery downtown if you want to hit any special taps at the downtown locations.

I’ll be staying at an Air BnB right outside of town, so I’ll be making the most of it. Will be nice to do a Jackie O’s trip that’s not akin to cannonball run.

Didn’t know about the line pours. That’s awesome.

Many beers and curds will be got.

I was there early last year, but I'm not sure how much of it will translate to this year. It was extremely cold last year as well(as I imagine it is every year in early January). They actually opened the doors to the brewery early to keep people out of the cold. The line started at about 9-9:30 and they let people in around 10:15. They had a breakfast you could buy before 11(I'd guess about 10:30?) and started serving beer in the tap room well before 11 too but there isn't anything about that on the Facebook post for this year. I'd say by the time 11 rolled around and they started allocating beers there were probably 75 people in line.
Getting there early was a bigger deal last year, as you could select to purchase any of the bottles they had, not just the anniversary releases, so it made the check out process take a long time. This year they changed it to help with the long wait times, making you buy the non-anniversary beers inside the taproom. I think that was a good call on their part and it really negates any reason to be there very early. I wouldn't be in a rush to get there before 11.

What are the chances that Apparvation makes it until 6:37:30 PM on Friday night?:wink::stuck_out_tongue:

I don't think it ever kicked all weekend during the last sour release weekend.

    Although...that vanilla version...

Outside of finally trying Dynamo Hum (Fuzz was great so expectations are high), I'm down with the Coconut CG and Ground Cherry Berliner.

I was mostly kidding, but I'm not going to plan on getting any, because the Cincinnati Craft Beer Club (on Facebook) said they are planning to play kill the keg with it Friday afternoon.

Luckily there are 67 other fantastic options .

Unless I missed it, this is the first time Vanilla Appervation has been out. Wish I was going to be there.

Aw, that's adorable. Do they have a clubhouse? I bet it has a sign out front that says "No Bad Beerz Allowed".

Basically. I kind of follow them for the antics, but watching them chug beers non stop gets pretty old.

I don't get this type of frat bro mentality.

    Ugh.

I guess it won't be too difficult to tell who the members of that group are, which means it'll be easy to avoid them.

Does their clubhouse have a "No Girls Allowed" sign out front? Based on what little I've heard of them (basically just the post above), I guess the sign is implied.

Surprisingly they have a lot of very active females in their group as well. One of them wears a bear suit to releases, so that should help you stay away. They are also all staying at the OU Inn, which is really unfortunate.

    Cannot facepalm hard enough.

Maybe all the stomach pumping and charcoal treatments will reduce their numbers on Saturday.

These people are what happens when beer geekery becomes more about the rarity and hype and less about the community and exploration.

So if I bong a Natty Lite while my bros cheer is that considered community?
