How do they do their releases nowadays? Last one I went to was in 2011 I think, where everyone lined up on the sidewalk and they set out the calender after the place closed on Friday night.

They (Brad) hand(s) out calendar pages at 5:00 now on Friday, just when the "other" side opens (last release it was the public house due to fire, previously it was brewpub).

It's a great format - ideally, you get there early on Friday, have a few on one side, line up (MOST of the time people don't line up until 3-3:30 so you only spend an hour/hour + half outside), grab your calendar, head to the other side, have a few, eat, sleep, rinse, repeat.

And, if you get there late, you can still grab your calendar and enjoy.

So much better than releases like Voodoo, where, yeah it's fun to rage all night in the street but you get your beer and want to head home...I like spending my money on Jackie O's beers & food and trying to sample 'em all.

Five is better. That means I'd have to take off work Friday to get there on time, but it's doable.

Got the okay to go and already can't wait. Didn't participate in any shares last time(which was my first release), but are these planned ahead or more impromptu?

Also, call the 800 number for Super 8 -- The people answering the phone at the actual hotel are, uh, kinda rude, but also cannot book your room there. They also did not know what I was talking about for the Jackie O's rate at the hotel or on the 800 line. Not a big deal, though. It was like $9 more .

What's everyone's thoughts on the Vanilla and coffee DA? I'm going to the taproom this weekend and have my eye on picking up about 6 of these but was curious if they age (not long term just a couple months maybe) ok? I have a ton of IPAs I need to get through first before opening the heavy stuff! Does the vanilla and coffee flavored
Hold up? I guess I'd have the same question for all of their non BA stouts.

Vanilla and Coffee Dark App is great. The vanilla isn't overwhelming, but noticeable. I'd drink it fresh and maybe hold onto one to see how it ages. It can't turn out very bad since the base beer is great.

mps, we did that in Decemeber and loved it. Wish I could've gotten there for Evelyn, but oh well. Think I might just do the same again. ALLLLLLLLLLL the Berliners.

At my local bottle shop the other day noticed the rum barrel aged dark apparition stout... Had a few on the shelf at something like $13.99 each. Is this something typically hard to find? I didn't buy any as I don't care for any barrel aged stuff, but it was tempting as rum would be more interesting than bourbon for me.

Unless they released a new beer without telling anyone, I believe you're referring to Rum Barrel Oil of Aphrodite.

The only time they've ever done Rum Dark Apparition in bottles was at a bottle release in December of 2011. They have also released a Rum Vanilla Bean Dark App at a bottle release in February 2010 (and maybe another time...I forget). Otherwise, that's it. I am doubting you saw these in a store unless the owner had these in his cellar and put them on the shelf (which I do not think is likely). As Shawn said above, you probably saw Rum Oil.

Those older rum dark apps would have been in 22oz format too right?

I love their beers as is obvious from the avatar, but their barrel aged stuff prices me out sometimes. $12.99 I believe for a 12oz beer, I'm never going to buy more than one. I guess I'm cheap. That's a $26 bomber.

Usually most are 11.99 here in cincy basically a $1 an Oz so bomber would be $22

Yeah that's out of my price range unless it's a special occasion unfortunately. Heck, that's more than Bourbon County I believe, quite a bit more. 4 packs of those I believe are like $30.
