Both Mass Rising and Kiwi Rising have always tasted a little strange to me in a way I can't quite put my finger on. Haven't rolled the dice on the new batch for that reason.

I do like Excess though so I wonder what the main differences are between those beers.

Had a blind tasting last weekend and Kiwi Rising did really well. Finished #2 in a great lineup and I did not peg it as Jack's Abby. This year's batch is phenomenal.

well then maybe multiple batches have gone out because it was one of my fave hoppy beers period for a couple years and each can I've cracked of this four pack has a muted aroma and a pretty ok hop profile but nothing remarkable at all.

I definitely get more of a defined, articulate hop character from Post Shift. Not overly hoppy by any means, it's a normal amount of hops for a pils, they're just done well. It's a really good beer.

Indeed. In fact I was just on my way to today's WBAYDN thread so I could proudly display the one I'm drinking right now. Here's an exclusive sneak preview for viewers of this thread:

    1. Mosaic Fort Point - Trillium
    2. Kiwi Rising - Jack's Abby
    3. Fresh Pick - Fort Hill
    4. Difference & Repition #2 - Hill Farmstead
    5. Lunch - Maine Beer
    6. Dreamtime - Down The Road
    7. Cat's Meow - Exhibit A

I've had plenty of blind tastings where I haven't liked many, but I enjoyed every one of those, the order was just my blind preference.

Had both Kiwi Rising and Post Shift last night.

Kiwi Rising: Can dated 9/27. I got zero onion/green pepper character. I think, given the amount of hops in this beer, it needs time to mellow much like a Trillium DDH offering would. It tasted delicious to me with a very pleasant nose of mixed fruit and floral character. Flavor was on-point too and consistent with how I remember last year's batch. Got a touch of alcohol, but within my acceptable range for an 8.5% beer. 4-pack at the brewery set me back $12. For some reason, I thought this came in 6-packs last year.

Post Shift: Yup, this is a very enjoyable pilsner. I agree with others that it is an improvement on Sunny Ridge. Sunny Ridge had too much grass flavor that went towards a peculiar finish for me to totally be into it. Post Shift is smoother and I got a nice appley character from it. It is fresh right now so we'll see how it holds up over time, but at the moment it is a very smooth and easy drinking pilsner, IMO. This might replace my default beer (Calyptra) to have in my fridge for awhile.

I'll answer my own question- for the heck of it, I just called them, they already shipped some down here... wohoo. Had some at the Pats game a few weeks ago, excellent beer for a football game, much better than the outcome of that game.

I got sucked in by the Kiwi Rising talk and picked up a four pack. I like it better than I remembered but there's still something a little strange in both the nose and taste to me. I'm not sure I would have come up with this descriptor without reading about it here first, but "green onion/scallion" might be it.

Not a bad beer and I'll happily drink the 4 pack. But I think this settles it that this one isn't quite for me.

I had my second can of the 2017 Kiwi Rising tonight, and I must admit it’s not as good as last year. I remember last year I was blown away by KR l, but this years version is just okay, and unfortunately nothing special.

stopped in the taproom yesterday and tried out Springdale for the first time.

    1) Pumpkin crop may be the best pumpkin beer ive had. so much flavor in a 5.4% beer.
    2) springdale room is pretty fantastic. Had both the regular and maple brigadeiro. The regular was a solid stout. Not too sweet which a lot of lactose stouts are, but the maple was the winner. The maple really shines through and is very well balanced. Really looking forward to getting to try more of their sour / ipas.

I didn't actually like their IPAs early on, but I've had a few lately and they've been solid. Cobi Colada is well executed for a pineapple-coconut IPA if you're in the market for that sort of thing, which it turns out I'm not.

I had But I Digress at the taproom this past weekend and it was a soft, tropical, hazy, juice bomb.
