I like Ray Catcher as a summer brew. The lemongrass presence isn't a BOLD FLAVOR™ but that's to my preference in hot weather, when I prefer subtler flavors and lower alcohol.

I've picked up several packs of it and iirc, two cans had weak carbonation.

Jack's has officially left their distributor, but im not seeing anywhere about a decision on the case, just an email from the distributor stating they were no longer selling the brand.

Anyone see anything about the case between jacks abby, abcc and atlantic? Pretty big standard setting case challenging the change to the franchise law, so id imagine if the their was a decision, there would be press.

Makes me wonder if Atlantic just dropped the lawsuit during the week leading into the 4th as a big middle finger to Jack's; they're certainly of that level of character

I know nothing concerning this. Can you please provide more details (or a link to an article)?

    Cheers!

Edit: I did find this old(er) article:

The case went to arbitration in April, and was supposed to end on 4/23. Arbiters were then to have 30 days to hand down the decision. You'd think, if the decision came down, it would have been reported on, being kinda important as a precedent.

Arbitration results often are confidential (don’t know anything about this particular case).

Im a buyer for a store and it was literally just an email from the Atlantic sales rep, not even an actual company wide email, stating jacks was no longer in the portfolio. They are with Sheehan, but I found that out through my jacks abby rep who ive had a relationship with prior to his rep position. Still weird to me that there has been no mention of this in beer media or from Jack's themselves.

I got an email from jacks abby and another from craft brewers guild talking about the move, no real new information, just a basic press release deal.

Still weird to me they haven't really said anything publicly about it considering how much they fought for the right to do this.

Other end to this I find bizarre is how quiet Exhibit A has been; they fought for this law as well and their own distributor tried to bully a brewery out of the rights Exhibit A supported. Now we know Atlantic has ownership interest in Exhibit A, so it is an awkward situation, but if they called out Atlantic, I feel like the beer community would back Exhibit A 100% and then some.

It looks like the beer finder is no longer working. Probably due to the distributor change. @JacksAbbyBrewing, are there plans to get it back online? Thanks!

There was not a single recipe change for Hoponius, rather it was tweaked over time to keep up with peoples perceptions and expectations of hoppy beers. The main difference is that there has been a 4x increase in dry hops since the first batch. What is really interesting that despite that huge increase, almost no one has ever noticed. We are really looking forward to hearing what people think when they try the original Hoponius recipe.

You can read a little more on a blog post from a few years ago.

How about the folks of Jack's Abby tasting panel, do they notice the difference in hop aroma/flavor?

There has been some studies about dry hopping amounts (see link below) with the concept that when it comes to dry hop amounts there is a point of diminishing returns (e.g., about 5 ounces for a 5 gallon homebrew batch). Have you noticed a saturation effect with your increasing hop amounts?

Since Hoponius Union is an IPL, does that mean you dry hop at cold temperatures? Does this impact the amount of extraction of hop essential oils on a per unit weight basis?

    Cheers!

So why keep adding 4x the dry hops if people aren't noticing? I assume this is more expensive.

The goal is to make consumers unaware of the change in recipe. If we didn't increase the dry hops, consumers would think the recipe was changing to become less hoppy.

You will soon be able to try an OG Hoponius next to a modern Hoponius and see the difference yourself!

I doubt that this pack will be in my local beer retailers but thanks for the thought.

    Cheers!
