Yes, and I'm quite impressed. I hope we get a warm day here soon so I can drink appropriately. But honestly, very nice beer.

-Look: Mostly clear deep gold color, with a large-bubbled head that falls fast.
-Smell: Bread crust, bright lemony-hops with a touch of hay.
-Taste: Lemon and citrus hops leading a nice bread crust base.
-Feel: Medium bodied, low carbonation, smooth and slippery.
-Overall: Excellent Festbier with lemony bread-crust flavors - delicious!

Bohemian Dawn is a solid Czech Pale Lager at 4.4%.

Halfway through my second four pack.

This beer is a collaboration between Jack’s Abby and Human Robot: SLO Lager.

    From Jack’s Abby website:

    “SLO Lager

    Slovenian Style Lager

Inspired by Slovenian hops and rustic amber lagers, the teams at Jack’s Abby and Human Robot collaborated to brew this limited lager featuring Czech floor malts and open fermentation. Life and Lager are both best enjoyed a little SLO.

    ABV 5%”

This is the first time I have read “Slovenian Style Lager” but there seems to be a recent trend to ‘create’ new style names based upon where the ingredients are grown, in this instance the aspect of Slovenian hops.

I conducted a web search to learn which specific variety(s) of Slovenian hops were used to brew this beer but I had no luck here.

I have used Styrian Goldings (Celeia) hops from Slovenia in my homebrewing (e.g., Belgian Trappist/Abbey style beers) to good effect. I wonder if perhaps this is the hops used to make this beer?

There is no such thing as a “Slovenian Style Lager” on BA so @Bhubbard34 made a decision to enter this beer in the BA database as a Kellerbier / Zwickelbier and considering the detail of “rustic amber lagers” in the above Jack’s Abby description I get this. I have in the past homebrewed an Amber Kellerbier of the Franconian variety and I am a fan of these sorts of beers (e.g., Mahr’s Kellerbier Ungespundet).

Let’s see what a “Slovenian Style Lager” tastes like!

Served in my Polish Pilsner glass:

    Appearance:

Golden colored with a white head which dissipated fairly quickly.

    Aroma:

A combination of bready/crackery malt and floral/herbal hop aromas.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with a combination of bready/crackery malt flavors and floral/herbal hop flavors. There is a firm bitterness

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied, a smooth mouthfeel with a dry finish.

    Overall:

This is a very good beer, I enjoyed drinking it. I really enjoyed the balance between the malt and hop flavors.

FWIW I think that categorizing this beer as a Kellerbier on BA is OK.

    Cheers!

Grabbed 4 packs of the South African hopped Pils and Polotmavy today from brewery. Paired lovely with corn elote salad and salmon I grilled up for dinner tonight.

just poured one now. Tasty beer indeed.

Canning date is a bit smudged, but seeing as the beer description mentions Czechoslovakia, I’ll assume it’s about 30 years old.

Anyone pick up a copy of Jack's new book on lager brewing? I'm really relishing this deep dive into modern techniques. I'm feeling an increased appreciation for their House Lager (though, full disclosure, the beer in the photo is actually Honest Weight's Prescott Pils). [IMG]

    Fellow lager-heads~

Jack and I will be at Brewer's Fork in Charlestown tomorrow. They'll be pouring Jack's Abby Modern Hell and Modern Pils, two beers directly inspired by our work researching our book.

We'll have some books on hand if you're inclined, and some friends have sent some special cans for the occasion. Fun will be had.

Folks, I am only at page 56 of the Modern Lager Beer book (so far) but I can highly recommend it. It is very well researched (e.g., the Bibliography is 11 pages long!) and very well written.

And if you can get a chance to meet up with Jack & Joe: view that as being part of the bonus plan!!

Cheers to Jack & Joe for writing a great book!!

No worries! I saw Jack at the table in the middle having a liter of beer. Everyone there was enjoying dinner so I didn't want to interrupt.

Unfortunately I just popped in mid-way through my run and grabbed only one beer at the bar. Had the Slow Pour since I figured that might go quick. I'll be back tomorrow though and again next weekend. Super pumped to try the two new Jack's lagers on tap.

Thank you so much for organizing this, the Slow Pour Pils was delicious and I've never had it before.

I just got back from grocery shopping at my local Wegmans supermarket and I noticed a big stack of Coffee House – Helles Lager with Coffee. I checked the website and apparently this was a March Release.

I didn’t buy this beer since a coffee flavored Helles didn’t sound appealing for me but I figured others might want to know about this beer.

    Cheers!

Maybe other folks are like me and not 'associating' coffee with the Helles beer style?

Have you tried this beer? If so, whatcha think?

    Cheers!
