I'm going to be in Jackson over Christmas with my family and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or things I'm missing? Right now, I've only actually got Snake River and Thai Me Up and that I can find beer at the aptly named The Liquor Store. Am I missing some hidden gem or is that really all there is? What say you BA denizens.
We spent one night in Jackson on the way to Yellowstone a month or two ago. I was able to make it to the Liquor store for bottles and a growler fill (which made it all the way back to SLC before it was drunk). Dinner that night was at Thai me up, while the food was overpriced (compared to SLC) and mediocre, the beers were amazing. They make some amazing hoppy beers. I am not sure where else I would need to go. Jackson is not all that big of a place. Enjoy your trip.
Thanks for the response! I figured there isn't much more going on in the town, but it always pays to ask. I missed out on Wicked Weed in Asheville because I didn't ask for information. Living in Philly, I'm not worried about overpriced food. Generally that means it's still cheaper than food here.
Seeing your from PA you will have an opportunity to drink Odell's if you haven't already. A couple other things to try that you can get at The Liquor Store (connected to the Albertson's in town) are Grand Teton Brewing (was in Wilson WY now in Victor ID), Wind River Brewing from Pinedale, WY. In addition to SRB and Thai Me Up hit, Q Roadhouse they are brewing beer now and have good bbq too. Finally, hit The Bird south of town best burger in JAC and a very solid line up of German beer on tap. See you there!
Yeah, I found the Q Roadhouse on Ratebeer so added that to the list as well. I'm looking forward to checking out the selection at The Liquor Store for things like Odell. Going to need beers to drink all week so I'll definitely choose things I can't get here. edit: The biggest problem I'm having is that both Roadhouse and Thai Me Up don't open until 5pm and my 7 month old goes to sleep around 6:30. Makes it tough to go to those places with my wife.
I had a sour imperial stout at Thai Me Up that was awesome. The food was disgusting, and crazily priced. My wife got a horrible meal there (it was seriously gross), and she was really pissed at me after going there. I'm just telling you to tread lightly. You may just want to stop in for a quick beer. They're also total dicks to anyone with kids there, as you'll find when you read the menu (the fine print on the back, I think). We got horrible service from them. I loved the beer, but hated the food, atmosphere and attitude.
Wow. That's a shame about the bad experiences people had a Thai Me up......My wife and I had the polar opposite. Outstanding food, great service and killer beer. My wife has issues with spicy foods and they let her taste a sauce because she wasn't sure about it, it was too spicy and they gladly made the dish without it. A lady we went with actually has visited Thailand several times and she really enjoyed the food. Snake River Brewing is just amazing. We go there every time we are in Jackson. Pako's IPA is just insanely good,as is their Pale Ale and Larger, they will also have others on tap there, usually like 7 or 8 ish. I drink Pako's all the time. Great atmosphere and the food is some of the best you will ever have in my opinion. Have eaten there countless times and every dish, every time it is just amazing. One thing I love about it is they only serve their beer. A ride over the pass to Victor Idaho to visit Grand Teton Brewing is worth your time, for the view from the top of the pass alone, and they have good beers as well. May as well keep going a short way past Victor to Driggs Idaho since you are almost there anyway. There is a fairly new brewery there(for the life of me I can't recall the name, just ask anyone in town they will know and the town is very small you could just find on your own) I had a few of their beers on tap here in Idaho Falls and they were fantastic,I thought better than Grand Tetons beers. There is a grocery store on the left as you enter Driggs that has a decent selection of beers that you may not have had as well. The Mangy Moose Salon in Teton Village is cool as well. Teton village it's self is pretty cool, kinda has a alps kinda feel to it. What ever you do have a great trip, hope you enjoy my neck of the woods.........
Opps! My bad......Wildlife brewing is in Victor not Driggs as I stated(the one I could not recall the name of),just have had their beers, haven't gone there yet.......
Thanks for all the input everyone. I'm definitely not going anywhere that's not close by Jackson but still appreciate the suggestions. The 15 minutes for Q Roadhouse is the furthest I'm interested in traveling. Always funny getting conflicting reports on places too. Amazing how wildly people's impressions can differ.
Don't pass up on The Bird either. Not crazy for German Brew but the Burgers are insane (and I think they added some local beer too) I take my God Son there all the time (age 3) it is much more of a local joint
Going to be in the Hole at the end of February. How was the Road House? Coming from Northern California and was wondering if I might find some less then mainstream breweries? I imagine there will be decent selections from Utah and Colorado? Toppling Goliath(ok maybe that is a stretch)?
