My girlfriend will be in Jacksonville next week and I was wondering if there were any solid bottle shops or if any white oak jai alai made it up that way?
I'm going to be there in about a month and was wondering the same thing! (Minus the White Oak Jai Alai).
White Oak Jai Alai does come to Jax, but whether or not it will be around during her trip is another story. You'll find it at Beer:30, Grassroots and The ABC stores on San Jose or the one in Fleming Island. Those are probably your best bet.
I was at the Jax ABC today (san jose) and they had white oak jai alai on the growler station. Although at nearly $15 for 32 oz it's more than twice the price of the cans. Still worth it if you can't find the cans IMO.
If you like IPAs, try some Intuition I-10 IPA made in Jacksonville. I bought a six in Jacksonville on Saturday and I really like it.
Thank you @beer30jax. I called yesterday and whoever answered was very helpful. She will be there Saturday, so I doubt there will be any left
I'll be in jax on Wednesday, flying in from Nor-Cal via Puerto Rico. Anxious to fill my suitcase with good Florida beers.
Just wanted to follow up on this post, thanks everyone for the input!! Beer:30 is a GREAT little shop! The guys that work there are super awesome and amazing friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent selection of good fresh stuff! I cannot recommend them enough. Grassroots... Wow. I wasn't expecting much from a grocery store, but this is not your average grocery store. they've got a really solid selection of beer, especially in the Belgian area. Definitely check this spot out. Total Wine is, well, a gigantic store. They have a good selection, but no soul. There wasn't anything unique there I couldn't find at the two other spots. I wouldn't go here.
Yep. Warren and Justin do a great job. They purposely have a light but highly varied inventory and prefer to turn over their stock very rapidly. Great little shop for fresh distribution. Jamar (sp?) does have a lot of Belgians and other Euro-selections. If you know what you're looking for, you can usually find some hidden gems in grassroots. Only drawbacks is that they can be very cagy and evasive about limited distribution beers and their prices have a lot of markup. What's good about total wine is that they often get a larger amount of the distribution pie than anyone else. During the last Westy 12 release last year, they were the only store in town that got any of that beer. Their prices are also the best in Jax, and they carry more than just beer. During the last cigar city white oak jai alai release, this was the only store in town where I found it on a shelf.
