Hey Everyone! Finally crossing this one off the bucket list and making it down for my first Jazz Fest. Super excited and can't wait to listen to nonstop music and drink some good local brews. What local beers would you recommend? I live in MN so I get all the typical midwestern stuff... Also, any good beer bars or food places would be great! I know we are spending a good deal of time at Blue Nile and DBA's (I think) seeing shows and whatnot. Just looking for some local advice really. Thanks!!
Jazz Fest will kick ass. I think hanging out at DBA is a good plan; strong beer selection and crazy magical concerts during Jazz Fest (Stevie Wonder played an impromptu set there once). For the rest, check out my beer recommendations here: http://www.yelp.com/list/brew-ha-ha-new-orleans
Beer in the fest is pretty rough. Last year they added draft Abita and Pislner Urquell, at least, but last I checked it was like $75 for a case of Miller lite. The Avenue Pub and Stein's are my recommendations, too, and as mentioned DBA has great music. Have a great time!
You need to go to Avenue Pub and Steins Deli. And the selection at Jazz Fest sucks. Abita should be there but will probably be hard to find.
Thanks guys. Honestly, I figure if I want any kind of fedtival longevity I should save the beer for the evenings when we're at the late night shows. I'm so excited! Never been to new orleans or jazz fest!
Good plan. JF is always so hot, so I rarely drink even one beer while I'm out there. Plus, it's draining enough just being out there all day, so it's definitely a good idea to save the drinking for the night time. Plus Jazz Fest is more for the smoking crowd if you catch my drift. Have fun, enjoy the music overload, and keep yourself properly hydrated (with water or iced tea). Jazz Fest is my favorite time of year.
Smoking crowd is cool by me We're covered there too. BM me if you (or anyone else) want to hang out! I get in Wednesday around 10pm, heading to Blue Nile probably and just chillin. Thursday, volunteering somewhere during the day (habitat for humanity?) and going to Howlin Wolf to see Soulive & Lettuce. Friday festival then Galactic & Blackstar at some venue. Saturday festival and Tab Benoit and others somewhere I believe. Sunday festival and open evening. Monday day and night open. Cheers!
Sounds like you have yourself a plan. I'll BM you if any of that is on the agenda. Lots of shows to see. Tough decisions, but it's never a bad thing to have too many options. Cheers
Heys guys! Any good bottle shops I should hit up while in town? So excited to get down there Wednesday!
Stein's Deli on magazine. Other places have larger bottle shops, but Stein's buyer has a good sense of what's good and what's unique.
