Wooowww we all had heard Beacon for new location, but it's great news to hear it is all settled and will be open by Memorial Day.

Haverstraw/Rockland county not so close to me as I'd hoped, about 45 min. from here give or take, but that's okay, it's on my side of the river anyway and we need another one on this side.

Love the quote (paraphrased here) that he wants to have the best IPA around and make it available at every gas station in the Hudson Valley.

Aren't these two ideas contrary to one another? What am I missing or did the writer mean something different?

They are. But I got a sense that with the decision to can, that will be a priority in their distribution, hence the quote on being in every gas station in Hudson Valley, as opposed to sending kegs out. But I would imagine some select places would get some kegs (Cable Beverages for growler fills would be great!) to help build a following.

Disappointed to hear about the quality drop in Peekskill Brewery. It is one of the local breweries that I have been wanting to try the most. Hope to get up there in the fall after a hike. But excited to hear about Industrial Arts Brewing and more local cans up in the area I work.

I think the intent of the quote is that they will concentrate on canning not kegging. Typical new brewery business practice is to concentrate more on kegs in the beginning until their is enough of a following to start to bottle/can. With Chief there isn't that problem. Most people into beer know that the guy is going to brew some stellar beers so he can go right to canning.

Oh, OK - that could be. But, given that the "ultra specialty-seeking hipster crowd" seek some canned beers and NY state gas stations fill growlers, I would have said simply that he's going for the off-premise, packaged beer market over the on-premise, draught market :grinning:

I too am glad it's on this side of the river. Maybe a 30 minute drive up the PIP to get there

I was feeling that Rockland County didn't have a big enough selection of breweries. I'm very happy to see another quality brewery open up here.

I think it is to differentiate from the "Peekskill Philosophy" they adopted when they moved to the new location and landed Chief, that they would not bottle or can, only ship kegs to accounts that they approved of, and only allow growler fills at the Brewery. This could be the ultra specialty hipster crowd mentality he speaks to. Just a guess really, but that was my thought when I read it.

I have to say I am really excited about this as I am 5 minutes away. Being in Haverstraw, I have always been a short drive to some of the Hudson Valley's finest but this being around the corner makes me very happy.

The little industrial park he is moving to was badly damaged from Sandy flooding and most of the tenants left after that. So I'm sure he got a great deal on renting the space. I hope after a while they expand past just IPA/Pale but that will be a later discussion.

Sounds reasonable. Chief doesn't badmouth anyone, so this might be the closest he'll get to saying the Peekskill business plan wasn't his bag.
