I'm in Jersey City for a week for work staying right by the Holland Tunnel. Any suggestions on what bars to check out? I probably wont have much time for bottle shops, but can check out bars with some coworkers that are looking to me to show them some good beer. I know of Rattle n Hum and Bling Tiger. Anything else that we shouldn't miss out on? Thanks in advance!
You could check out Barcade which isn't too far from the Tunnel on the Jersey side. They post their beer list to their site every day and usually have something from Carton or Kane on tap. Left Bank Burger Bar has some great burgers and some craft available but nothing mind blowing. If you want to grab a few bottles Buy Rite is right next to the Tunnel.
if you're staying by the holland tunnel you might as well dip into the buy rite - http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/21596/ its quite literally 2 blocks east of the holland tunnel and while it can be a sprawling mess they do have some good stuff sitting on the shelf from time to time.
second this. while it's not my favorite crowd, the owners really know & love their beer, and often feature stuff on tap that other bars just don't get. not very far past Iron Monkey, is Hopscotch (http://www.hopsscotchjc.com). Never been but I've heard good things, definitely appeals to the young urban professionals who now have taken over the waterfront area in JC. I've read an interview with the owners and their heads are in the right place when it comes to craft beer.
Also just saw tomorrow night if you can make it into Hoboken Kane Brewing is going to have a few cask being tapped at Cork City starting at 7.
Just got back from iron monkey. Good call. Had the firestone anniversary XV and captain Lawrence apple brandy smoke from the oak. Definitely going to check out the other suggestions over the next few days. Thanks guys!
I'm not sure. I was on the second floor and there is just a wall of empty bottles that the waitress said was their bottle list. I split the bottle with coworkers who were not impressed (i need a new job). They also had what i believe was the 2012 Parabola. I would definitely go there again.
