I was thinking of aging this Jester King Black Metal. Should i age it or enjoy it now?

Depends, have you had it before? If so, do it and see what happens. I had an OG Black Metal a few weeks back and got a lot of peat taste out of it, which seemed unusual, but I like Scotch so I accepted it.

Drink it now. I've had a few older bottles and thought the beer just fell apart. Fresh, it's a pretty nice desert type stout.

Save yourself and trade it for something better . Seriously though, if you haven't had it before, drink this one now and if you like it enough to hold onto it after, then age it.

Wasn't impressed with the beer fresh, I'd defiintely suggest trading it or drink before it goes downhill any further.

Can comments that read like this be stickied in this forum already?

Short answer for anytime they are questioning whether they should age it or not: If you've had it, try and see how it does with age. If not, try it fresh. Either way, buy more than 1 bottle.

I don't think this is a helpful response at all. If I have one bottle of something, I want to know when it's going to taste the best. Regardless of when I drink that one bottle - that's the one chance I'll have to enjoy it. Of course it's true (as people often point out) that if you age it, you won't know how it tasted fresh. But it's equally true that if you drink it fresh, you won't know how it would have tasted if you had aged it.

As a couple of examples that (in my reading) people seem pretty united on:
    Founders CBS - drink fresh
DFH World Wide Stout - age

Suppose someone posts the question, "I have a bottle of CBS and a bottle of WWS. Should I drink them now or age them?"

I think it's far more helpful to say, "The CBS is probably best fresh, while WWS is probably best after several years." Telling them to just drink them now so they know what they taste like fresh is far less helpful.

Please see the last sentence of my post you are responding to, where I said:

"Either way, buy more than 1 bottle"

The ONLY beer that I can ever recommend blindly aging is Dogfish Heads World Wide Stout, where 9 times out of 10, anybody would say they preferred it aged to fresh. Just about any other beer ever made and aged has had varying opinions on whether it is better fresh or with some age on it. It totally depends on one's palate and interpretation of flavors.

That being said, I'll tell anybody to drink what they have fresh if they're on the fence about it, especially if they're never had it before. Very few styles are intended to be aged, and I'm finding that many stouts that I've aged intentionally fall apart in a year or two. Somebodies OPINION, while providing insight into how their individual bottles were with age or fresh, is just that, an opinion. While they are asking for an opinion in the first place, isn't the question truly answered if they try it out for themselves?

My original intention of my call for stickying the comment remains, as that explanation is almost always within the first 3 comments of threads that are formatted around questioning age-ability.

Other common responses are "No," "Yes," and "Tell us in a year"

In many cases, it's someone asking what they should do with their only bottle. "Buy more than 1 bottle" might be useful advice for someone's future purchases, but it's not helpful for someone asking "Should I drink this now".

Fair enough, and some people truly prefer 90% of their beers with age on them. To each their own, but I think that the better all-encompassing advice is to start trying it fresh, and formulate your own opinions from there.

Quit being a woman and drink it. You will find more, it's not a stellar RIS, so it's not like this will be your only chance at it.
