According to BA, this beer is retired. Can anyone confirm this? I saw a few bottles of this beer like 2 weeks ago.

I would like to try it based on the name alone.

No, it's not. It's still listed on the JK website and I have seen it fresh recently.

This. They retired the ale yeast version in 2011, IIRC. Now pitched with farmhouse yeast. Still available.

My preferred "non-farmhouse" version is now out of production and has been for quite some time.

It is drinking quite well right now. I think I'm down to 6 bottles.

The supply has basically dried up in Houston now.

Still holding to my last bottles, it is too precious of a beer to drink. I'll be sad when I'm down to my last one.

I have a bottle but haven't been able to find a bottling date. Can anyone comment on when the original was brewed before the farmhouse switch?

First and last bottles in 2011 I'm pretty sure. I think 2010 was only in Kegs. I can't confirm though, just going from memory as this is one of my favorites and I remember when the first kegs hit Houston then when the first bottles hit.

All bottles of Farmhouse reference Farmhouse somewhere on the label.

Check the neck of the bottle just below the cap (like 1/4 to 1/2 inch below). My last bottle has a very tiny, faded bottle date. IIRC the first 3 numbers indicate the actual day of the year (ie - "030" would be Jan30...the 30th day of the year) and the second number indicates the actual year it was brewed. I'm not sure at which point they began dating, but some of the OG Black Metals do have bottle dates. Cheers!

Jester King has said they didn't bottle date back then.

Is it possible that that has something to do with the bottles and not the beer?

I've only had one bottle of OG Black Metal and man was it good. I still try and search the shelves in various stores and hope that I may one day stumble across another forgotten bottle.

I wrecked three bottles the other night. My supply is dwindling, as well.

But do you guys have the RARE silver cap bottles when JK got the wrong caps shipped to them! And they had to go to Austin Homebrew and buy silver caps for their line.
