I love this brewery and I'm dying to visit them in Austin.

Has anyone had an "experimental" beer at the tour that you think they should bottle and release? Has any of the experimental beers turned into something they eventually released?

Also, has anyone heard an update on when Salt Lick will be released?

Edit: Congrats on making the cover on BeerAdvocate magazine!

Not in bottles... but Salt Lick is on tap all over Austin right now (at places that usually get JK)

Does that mean it's passed label approval, or is keg approval a separate process?

Hey Jester King, why you no send kegs to Houston? Me want.

From my understanding, JK is really anal about the lines used when dispensing their elixer of love. They clean each tap line themselves. I could be wrong.

Keg approval is different as well. Each label need separate approval. 12 oz, 22. Etc.

Actually scratch that... That's not true. Same label for 12 and 22 is ok, i guess. Could not find 2 records for divine reserve. Keg is still separate though.

I would love to have casks then. I think a number of places here in FW would add engines if they had regular access to quality casks like JK sends out.

That's interesting. I didn't know that. And now that I think about it, the only Jester King beers I've had in Houston besides bottles were cask. I guess that explains why. But still...Hay Merchant does an excellent job of keeping their lines clean. Why not send kegs to them? I thought they had a good relationship with Kevin.

I received my Jester King glass today. It's definitely a new favorite among the 15-20 glasses I have now.

Wait, I lied. I drank El Cedro at the Hay Merchant anniversary party and it wasn't on cask. But still, I've often wondered why they haven't had more kegs of Jester King beer.

Jester king started on kegs. More money in bottles, and can reach more people. I support bottles only.
On a different note, is this the new jester king thread?
Drinking an el cesro tonight... So much more cedar in this one. Blame age or bottle variation? Will it get more cedary in the future? This is my favorite beer by them... And in this bottle the cedar way overpowers the brett. This one is not my favorite.

Only time will tell. For the thread and the beer both.

Yep. Let's stay on topic and not get all meta and maybe the thread will stay open.

I loved it on tap and didn't get a whole lot of cedar. I've had three bottles and all three had lots of cedar, but by the third one I didn't mind it so much. Would be interesting to know if others have had inconsistent bottles.

I think we need the everything threads. Jeff and Ron replied often to them, it was a place they could go for all questions... And they answered. Got long... Ok. Start a new one. Can anyone name a thread that was as answered by the actual brewery? Seems poinant to me. Anyway, imo... El cedro is more cedar forward now.

If anyone in Houston is looking for El Cedro, Spec's Mason Road has some in stock as of Thurs. 4/4/13.

Yeah, they self-distribute their kegs in Austin to <10 places and they do clean their tap lines. I might be wrong, but I think most places that self-distro kegs do that (since it's an activity the distibutor would usually do for you if you sold through them). It's also the reason they're in only ~10 places in Austin.

I agree we do need the everything threads. I loved those threads, but you had to stay on top of them to keep up with the conversation, wasn't a problem for me.

As for threads answered by the brewery; I know some of the Saint Arnold guys chime in from time to time and Chase from Prairie is very active in this community.

Im looking for a RU and Boxers to send off in a trade. My usual spot was dry today. Any sighting of these around town. Houston, SE Side. Willing to go in town if I have to (Smith St or DNQ). Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Check out Premium Draught if you can get into the Heights area. I don't know for sure right now, but they have had those recently and stuff seems to stick around there longer than most places. Give them a call, John is more than happy to talk to anybody.

I haven't seen RU-55 in a while but I saw Boxer's at both Premium Draught and Spec's Smith Street earlier this week.
