I was at whip in yesterday having a beer and my g/f really wants bonnie the rare. the dude from whipin texted someone from jester king and they said they sent a case to blackstar. called them and they said they only had black and wytch, called central markets (out), and the whole foods was out by 5th.

I asked at Specs Round Rock today, and they said its not even in their system yet, so they don't know if/when they'll be getting Bonnie

Quit chasing phantoms & enjoy beers you can easily obtain.

JK beers really aren't worth the fuss IMO. Lots of other great beers available in TX to interest the craft beer customer.

So what sours or Berliner weisse are regularly available in Texas that we should be getting?

I'm not saying to not chase JK beers, especially Boxers and Bonnie. But to answer your question jacobins rouge and rodenbach grand cru come to mind as 2 awesome sour readily available in Tx.

    That's just like your opinion...

People will chase what they want to. I think they're worth the effort to obtain, but that's just IMHO.

Perhaps a thread helping people track down said phantoms isn't the best place for your opinions. I for one, and I don't think I'm alone here, think JK is hands down the best widely distributed beer produced in Texas. Saint Arnold is a distant, but awesome second.

I could have sworn I got one at Central Market a few months ago. Maybe someone gave it to me. Either way, Monks Cafe Flemish Sour, Petrus Oud Bruin, Duchesse de Bourgogne and Lindeman's Cuvee René are all regularly on the shelves here, plus (when available) La Folie, Festina Peche, Rayon Vert and probably a few others I can't bring to mind right now, not forgetting Austin Beerworks Einhorn.

I wasn't really looking for suggestions. Just trying to somewhat discreetly tell the guy from Massachusetts to quit trolling in the southwest forum. Pretty much just a GFY!!!

I was at CM north lamar and apparently the distributor/rep was there when I asked about Bonnie the rare. He said in a week or two it should be around. I guess just keep your eyes peeled for a while.

I liked Love Child #2. I thought it was better than any other domestic sour I've had, and much better than anything readily available in TX.

I am a huge Love Child #2 fan. However, don't forget about Russian River when you talk about the best domestic Sours, no one is even close to these guys. Although, if you squint your eyes and take a big sip of a Love Child #2 there is a split second you can imagine you are drinking a Russian River sour and all is right in the world.

I also really like GI Lolita. I have some trades lined up for some GI Juliet which I'm looking forward to trying.

Unfortunately Houston BA's kinda suck at letting each other know when we get new stuff in. I went by Smith St. last week and asked about Boxer's only to find out they had received it the week before and it was gone... I didn't hear a peep on here about it arriving....

Hopefully threads like this encourage more people to chime in. Heck an unknown person in Fort Worth ran a Facebook page alerting a few of us to releases for a year or so. When they could no longer fill in I was forced to come here to find out what to watch out for, thankfully so...I think we have a great regional forum.
