Some "loyal customers" of Jester King have jobs that don't allow them to be at their computers at exactly 9:59 though. Plus a lot live in other cities. I'm not going to drive from Houston to Austin for a chance at getting one bottle of beer, so the lottery system makes it so that at least I'll know my drive will be worth it. The mindset that getting beer should be a job and only those who "deserve it" most should be allowed to try rare things is what's giving this community a bad reputation. Beer is for everyone, you're not going to die if some 21 year old who likes Budweiser gets to try a rare beer before you. Isn't the whole point of being a beer advocate to encourage that?

You aren't driving anywhere if 1. you don't win the lottery or 2. Don't sign up in the first 400. If you want to live up to your true advocate terms, going to jester king regardless of special release or not, should be its own awesome experience in itself and "worth it"

Yes, but mule-ing would be very restrictive. I didn't say it was perfect, just the best way to prevent.

It wasn't really directed towards you. I'm not opposed to a Reserve Society, the comment was in reference to people saying "I'm loyal, so don't do a lottery because my chances aren't as good".

Like I tell my kid, it's funny the first time you say it, not the 15 times afterward.

No, I knew BA was like that, but the SW forum was a more friendlier place. Lately it's been perverted by hoarders and fluffers. I wish we had the members from a year or two ago.

...that about covers it. No need to quote me. KCCO.

    Thread lock in 3 ...2 ...

The people who volunteer their time at Jester King to help bottle the delicious beers we drink are most deserving, but they will probably have to enter the lottery like the rest of us. If I score a bottle, I'd be happy to bring it to a bottle share. That's the best way to ensure more people get an opportunity to taste this beer.

Let's separate desire from deserving. We can say what we want, and as long as no one claims to be fan boy #1 or deserve every release, we can dream on.

I'm not advocating a reserve society, just imagining logistics...
I think the demand for a Reserve Society would possibly be too large for smaller batches. You'd have to make less people want it (by pricing or rules), or use a rotation system. Say you have 6 classes of 100 people. You rotate who gets what so class A-D get beer X with 400 bottles, E and half of F get beer Y of 150 bottles, start at second half of F for beer Z, etc.. Yes it's more complicated, but it's something.

And then maybe people could set up trustees, but with rules that make it not mule-town. Like trustees also have to be in the society, or from the same area code, w/e. Plus everyone must pick up their first reserve beer in person to prove identity.
    Just thinking out loud.

Why is it complicated? Sell a certain quantity of reserve memberships, limited run beers get allotted to reserve members first, excess to the public, just like AR, except there are no more signups per release.

I was saying my splitting of the reserve society was tending toward complicated.
It's possible the number of reserve society members exceeds the number of beers in a release. What do you do then? Lottery among the reserve members makes some sense, but will leave some very unhappy.

Or you have a small number of reserve memberships available (eh, 100, maybe 200). How does one get in the society?
A lottery? Waiting for a link to go live? In person at JK?

The driving comment was more in response to people suggesting I go there to wait in line and hope to get something out of it. I like beer. I like trying new beers. I also have obligations which preclude me from driving 300 miles every few weeks, or getting onto a computer at the exact right time and hoping I get lucky enough to win a chance to buy a beer. Does that mean I'm somehow less deserving of it than people who apparently have unlimited free time, money, and no obligations? It's just beer. If I get to try it, awesome. If I don't, there are thousands of others I can try. Pouting about who deserves to taste what just comes across as childish.

Funny how so many people who have said "its just beer, stop getting so butt hurt" are some of the same ones that seem so concerned about whether they get any or not. My issue was never with what I got or didn't get it was being respectful of others. So...WHO GIVES A FUCK, ITS JUST BEER!

I hope Jeff and Ron keep it all for themselves, family, friends and volunteers.

Cigar City in Tampa just started a new reserve society. They opened it to locals first - first 1000 people to come into the brewery and sign up got in. Took them about 4 days to fill using that method. After serving their local clients first, they then opened another 500 spots which could be purchased online, and which allowed for a trustee who would pick the beer up for the member. Those sold out in minutes.

Maybe not the "ideal" system (because there really isnt one) but it worked because it rewarded the locals, who are hopefully buying their regular releases as well, and once they were taken care of, allowed some others in.
