I'm heading through Austin in a couple weeks and plan to stop by and check out Jester King given all the hype around their brews. I like sours but don't appreciate them as much as I do a big stout just yet, however I understand a lot of folks here love JK beers and have great brews I'm more interested in trading for. Can you recommend which JK beers I should try to pick up to (1) enjoy / try on my own and (2) use to trade for heady stouts and IPAs? Thanks for your advice!
Take a look at the "Bottles To Go" menu on their website (they post it around the middle of the week for the coming weekend). Of the stuff that's available now, the Provenance variants are your best bet for trade bait, although you should definitely try them and Das Uberkind.
What beers you should pick up and/or try will greatly depend on what's actually available at the brewery. The pithy answer would be to try all of them; that's more-or-less doable given that they offer 4oz pours at the taproom. I would definitely at least try whatever they're also offering to-go. If the menu looks like what it did this past weekend (likely with the addition of Snorkel), I'd definitely try Das Uberkind, Ol Oi, Le Petit Prince, and Snorkel. I really enjoyed the latest Provenance, but that may not be around in a couple of weeks. Le Petit Prince may see distribution (at least it has in the past), so if you want to limit your purchases at the brewery you may consider leaving that one off. Provenance O&G has already been distributed, but that may be gone most places.
Thanks guys, I'll take a look next week and pick up what I can. It looks like Snorkel is on the list this week - hopefully it's around next week.
