I have not seen much mention of CdT here in the past few months and was just curious what it is going for/takes to land these days.
Objective: 1500 bottles, limit-1, brewery only, $16. Subjective: personally, I liked it better than Lily, which is one of the only other Tempranillo wild ales I have had. Answer: objectively similar beers would be the best starting point, but it seems like most people don't want to do objectively similar4objectively similar when it comes to Jester King. Can't quite figure out why that is, but trading confuses me today.
To offer a slightly different point of view, of all the JK fruited sours that have been publicly released this was the only one I wouldn't trade for again. I'm not sure what kind of stuff you have, but like the above poster mentioned it will probably take limited or brewery only releases. A quantity of BCBCS/Black Note etc. could possibly do it if you are willing to go over $4$
I traded a Mother of All Storms, Ale Apothecary Sahalie, and an Almanac Valley of the Heart's delight for 1 Atrial and 1 Cerveza de Tempranillo. I lost big time on the $4$, but overall was happy with the trade and the chance to score that bottle. I haven't drank it yet.
I'm a big JK fruited sour fan, but this one just wasn't good IMO. I def. wouldn't trade for it again. Cheers! Mike
I think I traded a batch 2 Biere de Norma for it when it came out. I thought it tasted great. Definitely more memorable than Lily, if you want to make that comparison.
My least fave for sure of all the JK fruited sours I have had (Atrial, MvB, Nocturn). I wouldn't trade for it again .
I completely agree with these two fine gentlemen. I've really enjoyed virtually everything I've had from JK, but CdT did not caress my grapes as lovingly as I had hoped.
For me, CdT was better than Nocturn, but not by much. I traded over $4$ with Black Note to get them. If I had my druthers at the time, I would have just asked for 2x Atrial instead. That is a great AWA.
this thread inspired me to drink mine. i like it plenty... it's also a damn nice looking beer. i haven't had many grape beers, and never a tempranillo grape beer. the two that come to mind are upright jeux d'eau and tired hands back into the emptiness. i'd probably put this somewhere between the two, with tired hands being the winner. edit: this is really 9.4%?
I actually really like the nose and appearance, but got a very weird almost plastic finish on the beer which I thought was awful. With all the mixed reports maybe there was a lot of bottle variation on this one (but that seems weird as I haven't had much with other JK bottles).
I liked Temp more than MvB and Merlot at the release. And while it's still exceptional, I lean towards MvB being the better of those 3 that were released that weekend.
my two cents for the JK sours I've had Atrial, CdT, MvB, nocturn in that order. MvB was the biggest let down for me.
