John Oliver rips Bud Light

Yeah, I have to agree with you there.
That aspect of the thing is pretty weird. I guess they're just playing both sides (just in case?? )
Can't really blame them. They definitely are losing market share, except for overseas; the Bud brand is huge in a number of countries, including China (that market alone likely makes up for any losses they experience elsewhere).

 

Whether or not I agree, I don't, you think a beer company telling people to take the world 'no' out of their vocabulary is a good marketing idea? Really? It's rich for mocking.

 

I never said it was a good or bad idea. I'm just saying people are making into something it's not.

 

Love him calling out that trash Floyd Mayweather as well.

 

Bud Light is just beyond garbage. Dont understand how people waste their money.

That was a great episode. He also ripped standardized testing.

 

John Oliver always cracks me up. Those up for whatever commercials are incredibly annoying.

 

Even when I could drink Coors Light or Miller Lite I could not choke down a Bud Light. Because nickles.

 

Good way to start my morning

 

It was insanely stupid and everyone who it made it past in their marketing department should be fired. I'm not sure how or why you can't see that.

 

I've been known to have 1 or 43 Bud Lights in a, well, session maybe? And yes, ice cold while partying with reckless abandon in a hot outdoor setting? Works just fine. I'm not ashamed, afraid or otherwise impaired when it comes to admitting that I have indeed had some serious BL pounding years, as I'm sure the majority of BAs at one point in time crushed some serious BMC. I do feel like his disdain for the taste of BL and piling on with the "ready for anything" commercial seemed like it was comedy birthed right here on BA throughout a few threads on BMCs. Regardless, he was absolutely dead on right about the lack of any rational review on that "removing no from the night" thing and the five levels of approval were awesome.

 

At least Bud is the perfect pairing for a quality burger. That could be a debate. But it's not.
This is how I know I'm in the wrong business. I should be in the marketing dept of a large company reviewing ads. There are so many commercials and print ads in general that I see and either shake my head or actually get upset that they are that stupid.
Come on people!

 

Bud Light is actually one of the only cheap beers I absolutely cannot drink. The last time I tried some I literally almost threw up. I can even drink bud heavy if I have to, but bud light really does taste about as bad as any beer I've ever had.

 

People don't like John Oliver???

 

Couple of thoughts:
- The Budweiser marketing copy is atrocious
- There's nothing funny in the John Oliver clip (nothing against him)
- Most of this thread is totally counter to the "Respect Beer" tag at the bottom of this page
- The John Oliver Bud employees are portrayed as thick-headed party guys... this is way different from the cartoon characterization often seen here (evil schemers in suits who don't care about beer)
