I don't think we've kicked this off yet. So: I'm going for the full-on liver-mincing long weekend.

Starting with, at the General Havelock (Ilson, Derbys)

Magic Rock Carnival, High Wire; Summer Wine Barista, Teleporter, Diablo (cask/keg), Oregon (keg), North Star Pathfinder.

Followed by, at the Organ Grinder (Nottm, Notts)

Redemption Pale Ale, Brodies Hoxton IPA, Blue Monkey 99 Rum Baboons (99 Red Baboons with a bottle of Captain Morgan in it), Steel City Bolshevik Solution and the so-good-I-had-to-drink-three-pints Blue Monkey Ad Infinitum (Citra dry-hopped Infinity. Like being facefucked by a pineapple).

And then, more Havelock, more Summer Wine Oregon. And hog roast.

Tomorrow; ten pubs strewn over three valleys. What does your Ju-beer-lee weekend proffer?

Holy Crap Scoop, that is insane. By Monday your liver will more pate than mince for sure. My can of Gold Label makes me feel positively teetotal in comparison.

Pint of Peroni (cost over £4 :slight_frown: ) then a can of Double Dragon woooo....

I'm thinking that myself. At £1.49/bottle (I thought Aldi was supposed to be cheap!?) I'd be better simply sticking with my much loved (and often maligned) Franziskaner. Bad times :slight_frown:

Pint of Peroni? Are your friends forcing you into those brutal fancy dancy bars again Essex? I really feel for you here.

It was really hot and muggy so I really fancied a lager, and it was either that or Fosters. Should have just had a coke.

Ok, I looked up Gold Label (cos I was like wtf?!) and... now I'm still WTF?

Barleywine? Don't suppose you care to educate me further?

Just remember, you didn't buy Arcobrau, you rented it. Within 90 minutes it'll be down the toilet, along with your £1.49, never to be repeated again. Bring on the Franziskaner and give yourself a good tummy rub like a good monk while you're at it.

Yes. Canned Barleywine and available at Tesco for just over $5 a four pack. Transcending no, and pretty much stripped down ( use to have a 10.9% ABV) since its heyday over 30 years ago but the reality of drinking cold barley wine out of a tin is just too tempting to resist.

If its the concept of barleywine itself which brings on the WTFs, then think of it as the original British version of a beer like Bigfoot but without all the hops and more on a big malt body.

    Ah, that kinda makes sense!

Don't know if I'll ever be allowed to buy some after the Aventinus "incident", but I may just sneak some in one day soon if I can :-)

In other news, the "rented" beer is now but a memory, and I'm happily tummy rubbing and typing. What an image!

Peroni can have it's place, although Moretti is miles better, well on draught at least. I was dismayed to find the last time I bought Moretti it's down to 4.5% ABV.

Seems to be a downward trend, both Stella and Bud down to 4.8% recently too I believe. Scoundrels!

A-ha! I have recently employed a similar tactic in reverse - getting the good stuff out of the way before moving on to the lesser examples when I don't quite care as much!

This, and yet you recently blew off Buxton's Imperial Black because it cost £3.60 or something.

    For shame -- FOR SHAME.

I'm just too polite to refuse to pay and get them to pour away half a glass. If it helps i'm planning getting one of each of the Buxton beers they sell before the summer ends? They stock about 5 or 6.

I've consulted my quorum of fellow beer-board agitators and we have decided this is, in fact, okay.

But please, don't make us get out the yellow paper again.

I'm 7 hours behind y'all here in Denver CO (Mountain Time)

Kicked off yesterday with a Ska Brewing - ten pin porter for lunch
Upslope IPA in a can (in a cocktail bar to keep the other half happy - but at least they had micro stuff - imagine that in a cocktail bar in the UK!!!)
On to one of the Breckenridge bars for River North - Hypothesis (9.4% IPA) and to keep the purists happy a bit of cask action in the form of Left Hand - Smoked Porter , most decent.

Finished the evening in the Falling Rock tap house with some of those fabled beers you see being bandied about by our friends over this side of the pond!

Russian River - Blind Pig, followed up by a Pliny the Elder, Dry Dock - Double IPA and finished with a Deschutes - Black Butte Porter

RR - really do know how to lay down an IPA!!!

Denver - you really can't go wrong!

Off out now for dinner then a few more choice beers!

    Cheers!
