I say chaps, have you all been at the cricket throwing googlies while consuming open faced cucumber sandwishes and warm ale?
Otherwise, why is there no weekend beveraging thread?

I've had my second last Bear Republic Hot Rod and another can of Gold label so far this weekend. Might try one of my older Fullers Vintage Ales at some point too but will be saving something special for Tuesday.

How'd you find it? Its been a few years since it last touched my lips but my impression was pretty mixed.

I'm at the Norfolk coast at the moment so it's all been Adnam's, GK and Woodforde's beers in a few different pubs and my clubmBloody expensive here at around £3.40 a pint except GK IPA at my club for £2.75
I did bring a dozen bottles with me but haven't been reduced to drinking any yet.But if the rain continues to hammer down I'll stay in and risk an 1845 or two.

Yeah, not a brilliant beer by any stretch but passable, not one i'll hurry back to. Maybe i should have drank it sooner as the hops didnt really make an appearance. Liked the caramelly dried fruit thing it had going on though.

I was on the Broads a year back and Woodforde's was pretty much all i encountered. I remember their beers being a lot tastier and interesting back in the 80s, or maybe that's just me.

I don't think when you drank it made any diffference because I last had this pretty fresh and your description pretty well mirrors my memories. Funny thing about memories. I like to think I have a pretty accurate tasting memory of everything I've ever drank but to be honest I probably found beers to be a lot tastier in the 80s as well because I was more easily impressed back then. It was the law of diminisihed exceptations. That and the fact that many of my favourite surviving beers from that era have really been turned down over the years.

There seems to be pretty general agreement that Woodforde's seems to have lost a lot of its character of late.It just doesn't have the zip and zest it once had. Different brewer or a side effect of a brewery upgrade ?

'Zip and zest' is a good way to describe what Woodeforde's was (is?). Was so impressed with them once that I had a couple of polypins of Wherry at my wedding reception.

I used to love Wherry, circa 2002/3/4

Had it a few months back and it didn't appear to be the same beer

I also said this about York's terrier, another beer I hadn't had for many years, that I sampled a month ago

Zip and zest describes what they both lacked well

In conversation with my drinking partners when on the Terrier, most folks thought it was due to my changing palate and that I drink much hoppier beers than I did 10 years ago

But interesting that Woodfordes has come up in conversation also!

Ah ok. Should be ok, hopefully they sell bottles direct from the brewery (i'm guessing they have a shop) which I can get too for a few quid

Local beer fest sold off stillage beers at a pound a pint. Ascot Alligator and Summer Wine Barista. I came home to a fridge full of M&S Summer IPA (Adnams American IPA).

I am almost fucked into a cocked hat.
