Julian Calendar dating. Why?

Do you write the date on your check like that? then why do it like that on the beer?

 

Jack the year long best buy date has irked me since I don't know when. Most recently my OK beer or OKOCIM and my Bittburger ( good heavens not the Bittburger!) If you are talking about a date that appeared in regular date format. month day year then on some Euro beers they have that but it could be a year behind because they think the beer is good a year out. IS this due to the time difference or the international date line or wat? If I go to buy bittburger and the date on it now is May of this year then that beer is already no good. I'm just saying.
