So I finally checked out Julian's in Providence after hearing great reviews from BA and my brother. The black bean burger I had was excellent, and they had a great draft menu. Also, I ordered a pint of Union Jack, and the keg gave out after pouring like 12oz's. The bartender said it was on the house, classy move, it was much appreciated, and I made up for it in her tip. Great place overall. Who else has been here? What else is good on the menu? What beers on the draft or bottle menu pair well with their food menu? I plan on frequenting this place since I like only like 20 minutes away.
It is an amazing place. The drafts are constantly in motion, so don't expect to see the same ones too often. I've eaten there a number of times, and you simply can't go wrong. Everything is great. For pairings, ask the servers, they are great. A top notch experience every time I've been. And let me make a suggestion: try one of their desserts. Even if you aren't a dessert person, you'll be blown away by the things they can do.
Beers are great, food is ok. I think they have good specials, but their regular menu is just so-so. I love that they do a lot of different stuff with their menu, but if the taste isn't their all the ingredients in the world won't make it good. But I can't hate on them, they are responsible for turning me on to some great brews. I had my "blue pill moment" with craft beer there too; a pint of Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball that simply blew my mind. Louis Fuller's is right around the corner and the food is great (a bit pricey though). Next time you're headed over there go down the side street that Julian's is on the corner of and hit The Avery. No food (I don't think) but they have a kick ass tap list and a sweet vibe.
I just visited Julian's for the first time yesterday afternoon, and it's easily one of the best beer bars I've been to anywhere. I loved the vibe--more of a cafe than a bar--and the service was incredibly friendly and helpful. The beer list was great--a good mix of higher-priced rarities along with some other great beers for $5, with the option to do a sampler flight for very reasonable prices, plus an extensive bottle list. But the food was incredible--probably the most inventive food I've seen in a beer bar. We stopped in around 4:30, planning to go to dinner across town, but with the vibe and beer already so agreeable, we saw the specials being written on a chalkboard next to our seats at the bar. They sounded great, and once the kitchen staff began preparing food for dinner right behind the bar, we knew we'd have to stick around for an early dinner. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
Had brunch there last Saturday and that was excellent as well. Great omelette and some awesome homefries as well. As weird as it sounds I also highly recommend using the bathroom.
I found Julians once when I flew into boston early in the morning and needed to be in providence later in the day. It was about 8am and I was trying to find somewhere in either boston or providence where I could have good craft beer with breakfast on a week day, which is not an easy combo to find. I was checking all the highly rated places on BA and wasn't finding anything in Boston that was open for breakfast, but I found Julian's in providence, so I took the train down and spent the morning there. Great selection of beers and a great breakfast. It was during providence beer week too, so they had lots of special treats left over from the night before. I'm headed to pvd/ct this weekend and since my only option for a ride to the airport is like 8 hours before my flight, I'll probably spend most of the day at Julian's.
One of my fondest memories of this place in college involves me sipping on some Imperial Stout Trooper while destroying some delicious hash and eggs benedict.
