I'm "home alone" (no wife or kids) on Saturday June 25th. Need to find something to do, some place to visit, probably by myself. Treehouse is out...day of their party. Maine has the Dinner release, and I don't want to stand in a line for hours. Don't want to travel much more than an hour and change from my house in Franklin, MA. Mostly looking at IPAs, Pale Ales, maybe stouts/porters. Not a sour or Saison drinker.

    Initial thoughts
    • Beer'd in Stonington. Maybe hit a local shop for NEBCO if possible. Does Beer'd have cans/bottles or just growlers? I really can't make good use of growlers.
    • Night Shift. Never been, but I can usually get the beers at Julios which is easier.
    • Been to Wormtown, Trillium and JA plenty...so not those three.
Any ideas? What am I missing?

If Maine was a possibility why not check out Bissell Brothers new space.

I liked the Castle Island tap room a lot. Right near Canton Trillium.
Beer'd has cans of Dogs and Boats and Hobbit Juice on a rotation. Not available at all times.
If you go to Night Shift, Mystic is just a few miles away and it is one of my favorite stops in MA.

Stoneface is a nice brewery to visit, not sure how close Franklin is to NH. Can hit Stoneface and Smuttynose in one trip pretty easily.

Maybe. Much of it is available in my local shop.

Didn't know they had a new place. Never had the beer. So a possibility. Drive time is high (2.5 hours each way)

It is a bit high. But they just opened a beautiful new brewery on June 4th. I think their beer is world class, absolutely fantastic. When in town you could also swing by Foundation, Austin Street, Allagash (these 3 are all in the same industrial park), Rising Tide and Oxbow. All within about ten minutes of each other.

Just a caution if you are trying to avoid crowds, Bissell and Foundations are usually train wrecks on Dinner release days because of out of staters maximizing their hauls/trips.

A run through Western Mass. has been on my radar. Honest Weight, Brick & Feather, food at Five Eyed Fox and then perhaps Building 8.

Thanks. That plus the drive time rules them out. Trying to get something not sold in shops here if possible, so Beer'd may be my best bet.

Medusa in Hudson, the hit up Cold Harbor on the way back.

2nd on the trip to Medusa. Great taproom. Sir Terry makes it worth a trip on its own.

    Aeronaut in Somerville, maybe?

Also, the Night Shift taproom is qualitatively better than what is available in cans: better selection, on draft, etc. Also in striking distance to Blackstrap BBQ in Winthrop...worth a drive on its own.

That's the closest by far (aside from Castle Island), and could hit Julios as well. Didn't know it had so many fans.

I'm planning this exact outing for a rainy saturday sometime this summer, since most sunny summer weekend days are spent either hiking or at the beach.

If you swing by Nightshift, definitely also check out Mystic. They are nearby, really solid, and make have been putting out some nicely under the radar hoppy options lately.

If you are up for a bit of a longer drive, I'd recommend Deciduous in the Seacoast area in NH. They have a great taproom, typically with a wide array of beers available for sampling, plus you are close to Stoneface, Tributary, and the Black Birch which has great food and an even better taplist.

Beer'd, Proclamation and Grey Sail (Captains Daughter) are all in about a 20 minute stretch of each other. Beer'd is generally very relaxed and this past Friday they had both Dogs and Boats and Hobbit Juice on at the same time. Have fun no matter what you choose!

I'd suggest a RI trip. Is there anyway to start I'm CT at Beer'd Sat AM. Grey Sail is close. Then Tilted Barn and Proclamation are in the Newport/Kingston area might even be a couple others. Come back though Provi, Pawtucket, and I think Ravenous is in Woonsocket.

Cambridge Brewing Co. First & still best.

Stop by Jacks Abby on way home. Then nap in empty quiet house with a nice buzz.
