ill be in Tucson weds and thurs. I think I will have some time in the later afternoon/early evening to enjoy a couple beers before heading to the airport. Which brewery/brewpub /bar should I focus on?

It's a short window as I think the conference ends around 4:00 and my flight is at 8:00.

Edit: I'll be using Uber to get around btw.

If you don't have any place in mind you have to see, I'd recommend starting somewhere near Congress St and checking out the bars, breweries, and restaurants in that area. That is the "going out" area for students at UofA, so its going to be the most trendy area in Tucson. My wife and I did a day trip there once from Phoenix once and enjoyed it.

You should be able to get a few good local beers that way.

Just go straight to Tap and Bottle and spend your time there. That's all you need.

Man that place looks awesome! Thanks for the tip.

I am down the road from Sentinel Peak (walking distance) how is it there?

I've not yet been there, but I've spent a lot of time at Tap and Bottle. I don't actually live in Tucson, but I went to school there for 10 years in the 90's. My folks live there so I go there every so often and I always aim for a Tap and Bottle run.

Other notables include Iron John's, 1702 and Tucson Hop Shop. I'm sure there are others that are more than worthy but if you only have a few hours near downtown, Tap and Bottle original location is where it is at.

Sounds good to me, thanks! I see they have a Yardhouse nearby. While not the best choice, it is close to my hotel and has some locals on tap. Thank you again for the suggestions.

Sentinel Peak opened up right before I left town, so I only got to try a few of their beers, but from what I recall they were pretty good - and I'm sure if anything they've only gotten better. I didn't try any food, so can't speak to their menu. If you're near Sentinel Peak then you're also probably near Tucson Hop Shop, which I definitely recommend checking out. Great tap list.

Closer to campus you've got 1702 and Tap & Bottle. Both have a good mix of local and otherwise, while 1702 also has some house brews and pretty solid pizza. I've always found Tap & Bottle to be a bit on the expensive side, but I suppose it's the price you pay for some of the stuff they get in.

I ended up having a Dunkel at Sentinel Peak earlier today and it was pretty good. I was one of only a couple people in there but everyone, staff and customers, were very friendly. I'll go back some day based on that alone. I didn't have any food.

At dinner this evening I had a Kilt Lifter. I don't recall the brewery but I think it was local. It's a popular name for scotch ale though.

I'm going to check out tap and bottle tomorrow afternoon. By my calculations I'll have about 5 hours to kill.

Sounds like you're pretty close to Tucson Hop Shop, it's not nearly the selection that Tap and Bottle has but they still have great stuff on tap and in bottles, plus it'll be less crowded on a Thursday night and they have a great patio space. Either way, you can't go wrong. Cheers

Oh man, that is a lot closer. I may end up there depending on logistics. I really wanted to get some Devil's Teeth if it is left at Tap and Bottle so that is what's motivating me to go there.

Is it in a good area? Because chances are I will have my bags with me.

I wouldn't call it a "good area", per se, but I wouldn't worry about getting robbed or your bags going missing either. It's just across the train tracks from downtown, but is in a reasonably trafficked area.

Both places are in perfectly safe areas of town. Hop Shop has a Prairie event going on tonight too, they just came back to AZ. You can check the tap list for both bars online as well if that helps you decide.

My boss ended up tagging along to Tap and Bottle but I enjoyed a nice pour of Modern Times Devil's Teeth. Thank you guys for the tips and I hope I can come back again. I wanted more but the boss only wanted one even though we are 3 hours early to the airport... but I digress. Cheers fellas!
