    Hey guys-
Just another noob here. I brewed my first batch (a sierra nevada clone) and it came out pretty decent! Looking for a good recipe for my second round. I love IPAs and pale ales but I'm open to all beginner recommendations. Looking forward to joining the crew :grinning:

Since you enjoyed the Sierra PA clone, I'll be brave and suggest you brew the same recipe again. At this point you want to work on establishing a sound and repeatable brewing process. Your first beer came out well. Awesome! Now see if you can do it again...

Otherwise, just do a search of old threads for recipes that sound interesting to you....

I like the idea of brewing the same beer again!

Otherwise I'd go for a wheat beer, pale ale, IPA (not imperial or double) or perhaps a simple blonde ale or English style ale. Keep it simple. Don't get all fancy, improve your process now!

Also, there's some good stuff on a recent Noob thread: (scroll down to scurvy311's posts)

I think SFACRKnight may have been joking, but a 120 Minute IPA clone would not be a good project for only a second batch.

The word "noob" really seems to be going around a lot lately. Is anyone not home brewing?

Anywho, I think Spring calls for a crisp Hefe or Kolsch.

If you go with an Ipa I suggest one of the following hop combinations. They can be a little harder to find but if you can get your hands on them you will not be disappointed. Use something easier to find like magnum or warrior in the beginning of the boil and save the other hops for 20 minutes or less left in the boil.

    1st Choice-Citra/Simcoe
    2nd Choice- Amarillo/Simcoe

Something like this for a 5 gallon batch

    1oz Warrior 60Min
1/2 oz of Both Citra and Simcoe 15 Min
1/2 oz of Both Citra and Simcoe 10 Min
1/2 oz of Both Citra and Simcoe 5 Min
1/2 oz of Both Citra and Simcoe 0 Min
1 oz of Both Citra and Simcoe Dry Hop

Go big or go home? No, I'm not serious at all.

Yeah, that's more of a first batch type of brew.

...or even better. Wheats are also great.

Do you have temp controlled fermentation yet? If not, what temp can you hold at?

Brew a beer that you want to drink that is within your capabilities. I believe there is a lot of merit to this idea (below) if you don't mind brewing the same beer back to back:

Or perhaps keep the grain bill and hop schedule but try switching out the hop varieties (lots of threads out there about nice hop combos).

Not a good time of year to buy hops in bulk or is it?

Thanks for all the suggestions! This time of year, I can keep the temp at a pretty solid 60-68 degrees though I don't have a good handle on temp control yet. I'll search through old recipes on here and try to do something similar and good for spring. I'm excited to try another batch. Unfortunately I just took a trip to Vermont and hauled back a bunch of Heady Topper and Hill Farmstead so the homebrew is getting second billing, ha.
