Wife and I are traveling to Chicago from Minneapolis with her sister and brother-in-law for some child free adult fun this coming weekend. We've all been a few times and know the standard spots. We're staying in Logan Square and probably hitting up Half Acre, Beer Temple, Bang Bang at some point. Any suggestions for new or unique beer or food spots that might not be on our radar?

The women are going to a Hanson Brothers concert (no, seriously) on Friday night so my brother-in-law have the evening to ourselves if there are any cool beer events going on in the city.

Willing to mule some stuff from Minneapolis if anyone has anyone specific trade requests, though budget and car space may be limited.

If you're interested in BCBS on tap, check one of the Whole Foods to see what they will have. The Lakeview location is probably closest to you, but the Lincoln Park and DePaul locations will also have something on tap. As of yesterday and this morning, the locations I talked to still didn't know what kegs they'd be getting for it.

Dovetail for lagers and other German/Czech styles, which is near Bottles and Cans where you can mix-a-six of anything in the store. Dovetail is often the highlight of people's trips when I've recommended it in the past.

Forbidden Root and Corridor for NEIPAs worthy of the hype of the style, plus both have excellent food. Forbidden Root also excels at many other styles including a delicious American adjunct lager referencing a beer you might know, Shamm's.

Mikerphone, More, and Noon Whistle are all good suburban breweries relatively close to one another. They are mainly known for NEIPAs (and the first two for stouts as well). More is the most hyped of the three, but you can fairly easily hit all of them in a single trip if you have a DD.

Go to the Radler in Logan Square for a great environment, drinking games, and tons of great German beers on (plus a very good burger and actual German food).

Off Color and Metropolitan both recently opened really awesome taprooms. I highly recommend them even if you haven't been the biggest fan of their beers (just make sure to go to Metropolitan in daylight to fully appreciate the views).

Lastly, Logan Square has a high concentration of awesome coffee, if you're into it. Go to Gaslight for pour-overs, Ipsento for espresso drinks, and Passion House for pour-overs.

Thanks, BIL mentioned all the Whole Foods stuff so we'll definitely check that out. Seems like fortunate timing on our part.

Metropolitan and Dovetail 100%. If you are obsessed with the haze craze, then yes you should hit Forbidden Root and Corridor. But if you love beer Dovetail is a must visit. Metropolitan is an OG to Chicago, so you should pay their new taproom a visit. Amazing taproom. Then hop over to beer temple. So much to do in both areas. Also, if you are in Logan, might as well hit up Rev too.

Has Dovetail ever commented about a willingness to package their beers for retail?

If you are truly in Logan, take the L down to damen and go to Piece for pizza and beer.

I've been dreaming of this forever. Nothing that I've heard indicates that they are, though, beyond bottling their lambics for on-site consumption when they're ready.

Yeah, we're staying on California. Piece was on my radar but wasn't sure if it was good or not.

Second these options for coffee. I really enjoy Gaslight. Get some beans to bring back. You won’t be disappointed.
