Just Capped Batch, Caps Tight But Spin With Force - Help

I just capped two one gallon batches, first time brewing at home. Used a bench top capper and the caps went on tight but they spin around if I use a cloth between fingers and bottle. Without the cloth I can't get a good enough grip to spin the cap. Either way, the caps seem on tight.

Is this normal? Should I still have a good seal? Should I probably just not try to force the caps to twist around? Any help or input if appreciated.

Any chance your bottles / caps were still fairly wet with sanitizer when you capped them? If so, wait until morning (for them to dry) and there is a good chance they will no longer spin. Either way, mess with them as little as possible. This happens more than people realize because people don't usually try to force them to spin, let alone do so with a cloth for extra grip. They will most likely be fine.

Yeah, there's a chance. I know the caps were wet, I had them in a bowl of Star San as I was capping. I'll check sometime tomorrow, see if that clears up the issue.

    Thanks for the troubleshooting, Koopa.

I found the same thing and they turned out fine. This does happen quite often for me but I never seem to have any problems later. CHeers!

Start kegging and you will never, ever have this problem again.

As far as I see there's no problem.

In every bottling thread you can always count on someone chiming in with "just keg!"

Thanks folks, checked on a bottle and seems to be a non-issue now. Glad to know it's something that happens, I had searched for any info on what a properly capped bottle should feel like and couldn't find anything prior to posting this.

Would love to keg, Ace, but I'm doing one gallon batches till I have the space for a larger setup.

The doc should probably tell the man to stop doing that, Mugs.

I may be weird, but I have never considered spinning the caps when I finish bottling, much less finding a cloth to get a better grip.
Anyways, as they said (and it's much later now) Don't do that...

Nope, that's not weird. I never have either.

I've done that quite a bit and got freaked out too. They always come out fine.
Actually I've broken a few bottles by trying to cap too tight...

If it doesn't go on easy...something's not right.
