Just Got My First BCBS...

    Hey Guys!

    I just got my hands on a BCBS...2014...How long should I cellar? When does it taste the best? I am new to some of this.

    There's no point in cellaring if you don't know what it tastes like fresh. Drink up.

    I would trade it for a beer that doesn't taste a shot of soupy bourbon

    Cellar it in your stomach.

    Seriously, I'd try one and cellar a few. Then I'd get some fresh BCBCS and drink it all now. Then I'd get some older vintages of regular BCBS and try those compared to fresh.

    I like my BCBS with a year on it. The heat will be a bit faded than, I like that. But I have not had the 2014 release yet, and from what I've heard it should be very subtle.

    Where did you get the BCBS? I saw that your from Michigan. I live in Northern Indiana, really close to Michigan, and have been trying to find some. Unfortunately I have been able to find any

    drink it now! I don't see the point in cellaring a beer you havent tried before.

    If its just one then drink it. But if you have a few get to know the beer by drinking one now and then one every following year until you run out.

    2014 is the best it's been fresh in years. Since 2011. Drink up. I like it plenty with 3-4 years, but this vintage does not need time as it isn't particuarly hot fresh.

    Did you try the lower ABV batch (13.8%) or higher (14.4)?

    14.4% is amazing this year. Haven't had the 13.8%. Drinking fresh is not a bad idea. However can't wait to see what it is like in a year or 2!

    14.4% is all that shipped to my area. Will be trading a friend in eastern IA for 13.8% but it sounds like 14.4 is the better batch from friends who have tried both. Every bottling date is its own unique blend so all worth trying if you can and care to.

    BCBS can be aged for a long time - I had a 2007 that was the best beer I ever had

    I didn't love 2014 fresh. Actually, I didn't like it at all. So I put it aside and I'll have one next year. One year seems to do the trick.

    I'd try one now, and cellar the others and try and note the differences. The 2012 that i popped last week was pretty killer, I haven't even had any of the regular bcbs this year but I did have some bcbbw and bcbcs, i don't think aging this year's coffee will do much to it so those will either go to the trading block or be drank this year.

    The bottles say they can be cellared for up to 5 years. I'm working up to a five-year epic and just did a 2013 and 2014 side by side. I've also had a 2009. I don't know if it was the batch, the way it was cellared or just how it tastes that old, but all of the bourbon sweetness was gone

    congrats - now every other regularly available stout pretty much sucks :slight_frown:
