To the OP: let me know if/when you make it to Fullsteam. I'll be happy to give you a tasting or set you up with a barkeep if I'm not there. Our offerings tend to be food-focused and sessionable, though we delve into the quirky here and there. We tend not to make aggressively-hopped beers...it's not so much our thing.

Wow, three years in and we're "old guard!" Such is the dynamic craft beer biz!

Lastly, welcome to the area! I went to undergrad in the Chicago 'burbs...hope you've found your time here in the South to be welcoming. It doesn't normally rain this much.

    Cheers,
    Sean

Fullsteam dudes and dudessessss, having just a tad over 2 years "craft beer" experience to me you are Old Skool, in a loving kinda way (you were the 1st brewery I ever bought glasses from ..... and I bestowed one of them to VncentLife when his "lady" friend broke his only example thereof). My all time favorite Fullsteam brew is Hogwash, it taste to me exactly like Lexington style Bar-B-Q ... only ..... in a pint. I love your keep it local stupid concept and as long as I suck oxygen, I'll always support you folks. Cheers my dear Friends, Gary Maness aka Red Neck Beerz

ACME Pizza Co in Holly Springs not only has 12 tap beers, many of them local NC beers, but it specializes in Chicago pizza! Being from Il. you might appreciate that. (Disclaimer: Ok I'll come clean....I'm a bit biased because I am the owner of ACME Pizza and I can't pass up the opportunity to plug my business!)

Thanks for the invite, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I had to get some stuff done this afternoon but it'd be great to meet up some other time. So far I've only made it to beer study a couple times but really enjoyed it.

Fullsteam is a must stop. Just a great scene there and solid brews. Still cherish the chombers I had! Yum!

My other recommendation is to go to the local breweries. After Fullsteam, try Triangle Brewing on Pearl St. in Durham, Bull City Burger on Parrish St. in Durham. Then try Steel String in Carrboro and Raleigh Brewing/Trophy Brewing in Raleigh.

Brawley's is a joke, man... I went up there from Clayton a couple a weeks ago and was expecting a world class beer store, like the rating suggests, but the place was a hole in the wall and all the good beers werent even for sell.

First of all, I'm certain that Clayton is a fine centering of your judgement on all things beer, etc. Also, you do not go up to Charlotte from Clayton, it's south of there, and west, almost in the Palmetto State. So, your opinion is duly registered here in perpituity for all to regard- a lovely time-piece for your piercing appraisal to be witnessed by all of us unknowing dolts. I have just one question for you: what in the HELL do you know, and why should I even care? I love Michael Brawley like a brother, I love his business ethic, and I'll defend him against fools like you until I'm gone.

Not all of us say down there when a place is south of them. Sometimes i say i went up to the beach or down to Virginia, man its all relative anyway. And I dont what your relationship to the owner is he still runs a shitty beer store. When I went in there I expected a world class beer store and not some old gas station where you cant even buy half of whats in the store since its off limits.

Dont get all bent out of shape because someone expressed there opinion. And i'll have you know ive been in the craft beer scene for 15+ years now and have tried thousands of beers from all over the world in every style imaginable so chill out tough guy, Id whip the dog shit out of you if you ever talked to me like that in person anyway. Dont be rude to a newcomer.

I didnt come here to impress you anyway!

Rude is just a small portion of your problem. Last time I went down to Virginia, I was in Maryland. It really isn't relative at all, it's geography. Anyway, I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience at Brawleys. I'll bet that you'll not be missed. No hard feelings, really. I just respond negatively to oblique and incoherent attacks.

I just said the store was a joke man, chill out. Your not cool for arguing on the internet anyway.

No hard feelings, really. But you also said "shitty" somewhere in there. You could simply have said that you were disappointed with your experience where the vast majority of others would disagee with your assessment. I'm done. Good luck to you.

Sorry your expectations were not met. Half the store was off limits? Could you be more specific on what beers you saw but could not purchase?

Yeah what's wrong with Brawley's? I love stopping there every time I visit Charlotte. If you're referring to the bottles of Olde Rabbits Foot and some other rare beers behind the counter, I've seen plenty of rare bottles at every beer shop I've been to that aren't for sale and are for viewing purposes. You don't have Lindley Park for sell every time I come into the store? WTF

Now to the OP, if you're in the Chapel Hill area, just sit tight until Haw River Farm Ales opens up in Saxapahaw, NC just south of you. Should be open in late January and will be producing the best beer from the area IMO.

Where's a good place to go and watch the game on Thursday as far as a good environment while still having good beer? I was thinking about making the trip to South Carolina but decided against it with it being on a week night.

Park Rd. Duckworths has $3.50 night. They will have the game on but likely music over the speakers

Who you rooting for? Gamecock Club goes to Icehouse in Southend and will have audio. They have plenty on tap to keep you happy during a game.

If you are rooting for UNC, I recommend you stay at home so no one sees you crying into your beer!
