    Hey Fellow Mountain Region Threaders,

    Just moved out to UT from Southern California for work. Looking at some tips for places to buy beer...well I guess my only option is the state owned stores? I've heard some are better for beer than others? Any insight would be great!

    I'm in the Salt Lake City area and any tips for places to get good beer at a restaurant/pub/etc would be awesome. I've been to a couple places in the Sugar House area that are decent but I could use some help. The whole 4% draft deal is interesting - guess it's time to get my session IPA/berliner game on!

    Also brought a good amount of stuff with my from CA (Bruery, Firestone, BCBS, MT, RR and about 100 other bottles) with me. Interested in doing a share if anyone is down!

    Welcome! Utah is not staking out much in the way on new frontier in craft brewing. Your best bet for a good pub is probably the Beer Hive. The Bayou restaurant has a fairly wide selection of beers.

    Sounds like you understand the drill: beer in grocery stores, etc. is low alcohol. The state liquor stores have the real thing, but our local law makers assign a "sin tax" that you will see when you visit a store. My local store has a relatively good variety, on Fort Union Blvd. (7000 S.) just west of 2000 East (Highland Dr).

    Needless to say - when traveling out of state, you might consider "boot-legging" some favorites back home to our fair state.
    Use common sense, store said items covered/out off sight upon return - just in case you happen to get pulled over (I have been accused of having a lead foot). I have never a share before, being a newbie to BA. I do have some variety of "cellared" barleywine and strong ales, if you like that.

    Bummer. You went from Mecca-level availability to ... Baghdad-level.

    Thanks @HankBuddy for the tip on the good stores! I'll be sure to check them out and see how it goes! I've also brought in some of my own stuff from elsewhere :slight_smile:

    @themill love the analogy haha.

    I moved here from Wisconsin a year ago. The struggle is real. Bringing in your own beverages is the way to go. Uinta, Epic, and Red Rock are awesome. So is the Beer Hive, so check that out!

    Take up climbing and you won't have time for beer :wink:

    What's the deal with arriving to the airport with beer for personal consumption?
    I ask because my brother in law just moved there for work and I may be visiting next summer.

    Not sure if there are tasting groups here, I moved here recently from Detroit (to SLC) and would like to open a few things with people...

    Cheers,
