I'm in Kalamazoo for a wedding next weekend & am hoping to find some Shorts' bottles. I'm not sure of the general availability or whether its specifically easy to find in Kalamazoo. I'm staying at the Radisson on Michigan Ave. Any insight/tips would be appreciated.
Any large supermarket in Michigan will have the regular lineup of Short's beers, but here is a link to the best stores in Kzoo to get their seasonals/special releases. The Drake's Party Center and Tiffany's are the two stores that are most popular, but Mega-Bev has recently opened two stores in Kzoo and Portage, so they are not yet on the list. http://www.megabev.com/ About a mile west of the Radisson on Michigan Ave/Stadium Drive is a c-store that has a good selection. I think it's called Bottoms Up.
Drake's Tiffany's MegaBev Beer & Skittles Bacchus Those are the places to hit up if you're looking for bottles. If you want a bar, best bets are Central City Taphouse and Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. Have fun!
BTW, I haven't had a chance to post this in the appropriate place yet, but stunning work on the Anny Ale. Very well done.
You may have already figured out, but the Radisson is just a few blocks from all of these - Bell's, Central City Tap House, Kalamzoo Beer Exchange, Olde Peninsula Brewpub, and Shakespeares. Tiffany's tends to be a bit more expensive than Drake's, but both have a larger selection than Bacchus. Central City Tap House has the best tomato basil soup around. Central City and Kalamazoo Beer Exchange tend to be a bit more expensive, but still fairly reasonable. It's been my experience that Shakespeares tends to be a bit more of a college kid hang out and a bit more noisy. If you want a nice Irish Pub with a couple of hand pull options, check out O'duffy's Pub- also great food. You picked a great city to come for a wedding - better book another couple of days at the Radisson. Whoops, you were just looking for Short's. Shouldn't have a problem finding anywhere in Kazoo.
If I'm ever in K-Zoo, I go to drakes to see what they got. They seem to stock up on hard to gets, so whenever most stores are out, Drakes seems to have a good supply of stuff. Go there!
Just hit Drake's a few hours ago. I saw several regular Short's options available. Only 1 sixer of the Anni Ale on the shelf though. Thought about grabbing it, but decided to leave it for someone to give them a chance to partake in this delicious brew since I've still got a couple 6-packs at home. OP, let me know if you're looking for the Anni Ale, I'll be at Bell's next Saturday hoping Wild One is still flowing...
Thanks - I'll be at Bells on Friday afternoon. Not sure if my Saturday schedule is going to permit another stop. I'm hoping to find some Anniversary, but if not, it won't be the end of the world - plenty of delicious Michigan beer regardless, I'm sure.
