Headed to Kalamazoo for the NIU game Saturday. Any MI beers not available in IL (Shorts, Kuhnhenn, etc) I should pick up? Going to Bells after the game any other suggestions? Also, planning on stopping at Greenbush Sunday for lunch. Any better suggestion on the way back towards Chicago? Thanks.
Beer Exchange is kind of interesting. And you can't go wrong hitting up Greenbush on the way back. The Livery in Benton Harbor is good too.
Bell's has terrific beer, the bars is Boring. Unless they have some music across the hall. Green bush is good. Shore line in Michigan city is very good too!
It's highly unlikely that you'll find any Kuhnhenn in western Michigan. There have been some reports on this site of Kuhnhenn's Braggot at some stores, so that is all that you are likely to find. Other bottled stuff besides Short's that you I don't think you can get in IL are Saugatuck Brewing (all pretty decent), Brewery Vivant (Belgian-inspired stuff in 16 oz cans and all very good) and North Peak (most are very good). There are other smaller breweries that are Michigan-only with their distribution but I have not discovered much from them to write home about. Enjoy the game and your Michigan visit.
If you are under 30, and don't like actually holding on conversations with people, sure, the bar is boring.
LOL, right. I love their place. Made me wish I lived near Kalamazoo. Edit: oh, and OP's got a good plan in IMO. That's just what I'd do. Greenbush is awesome.
