got to try the bananna one, choc pb, and bourbon coffee beans today... all were very nice. Great day at Kane with my family and brunch at buttered biscuit was nice as well. got a fill of the choc pb to take home, cool that they had that for to go, also grabbed a bottle of the hibiscus barn door

Had the chunky monkey and the pb on tap but haven't cracked a can. Both were solid but didn't taste like port omna. The monkey was walnut forward and tasted like melted ice cream. The pb is rich and deserty. As a lover of the OG port omna i am a little disappointed as port omna used to be a drinking beer as opposed to a tasting beer but i do not want to undersell the fact that both i had were delicious.

That’s basically how I feel about them. They’re all great dessert/after dinner beers don’t get me wrong but not something I’d want to have again and again. The OG/base version was a thing of beauty though, I could have that beer every day.

yeah i said to my cousin last week, I wonder how much the surge of the "pastry stout" influenced the variants this year

Just went to pick up some cans. They have some Port Omna cans in the fridge. All variants.

Did anyone try the barrel aged barn door? If you did, did you enjoy it?

Update on this have now had coffee and marshmallow. Coffee is a truly unique beer. Tastes like an irish coffee stout. The barrel is different than any other beer i have had. Marshmallow is just straight wilfred brimley and i am glad this is one of only two cans i kept. Very sweet and unbalanced.

yeah i think a lot are confused by that one... my understanding is that the beans used were barrel aged beans...the beer was not barrel aged

Yeah...also they've been doing variants on Port Omna for years too... someone earlier was lamenting they were suddenly pastry-fying it--seems some of these are recurring though.

I finally got some chilling in my fridge, can't wait to crack tomorrow morning! Will offer my opinion on BA Barn Door too.

The bourbon character. Aging the beans does something very different than aging the beer or even barrel chips. Very unique.

I’ve only seen this technique done one other time (AZ Wilderness, Coffee Black/Whiskey Neat) and the results were a little too boozy and coffee forward for my liking. Kane’s effort was much more subtle and enjoyable IMO (which is unfortunate, AZ Wilderness collab’d with Exo Coffee out of Tucson, probably my favorite roaster in America). All that said though, not a huge bourbon guy anyway so it’s not my favorite of the bunch, personally.

Twin elephant has done I think at least two stouts with bourbon barrel aged beans. thought the results were pretty good, just a very, very subtle bourbon flavor.. I'm not a huge BBA stout guy, so for me that's actually better...

@Sabtos let us know when you try the barrel aged barn door if you remember. It’s hard to gauge a beer via untappd since so many just put caps and that’s it. Would love to know what you thought. Cheers and thanks.
