if anything i figured the pandemic would increase sales as people load up on beers.

I'm seeing a lot of breweries having trouble moving product as quickly as they were previously. Even some of the more hyped places. It's not just that not everyone is familiar with the purchase process which is now different and individual to each brewery if they are even selling to go, not just that some people want to respect the directives to stay home, but also that a lot of people are now conserving their money.

while some of the stuffs going out to retail, there much less foot traffic at the brewery, as well as grocery/liquor stores. makes sense to me

Was kind of disappointed when I saw the limited range of delivery. I was hoping a big operation like Kane would have a wider range since Magnify is claiming they can deliver to most of the state.

magnify has a "if the price is right" mentality. Kane is also distroing most of their instock beers to places throughout the state. I'm sure as this goes smoothly, they'll expand.

i suppose i'm just basing it on the breweries that i dealt with that are flying through beer (conclave, troon, twin elephant, hell even untied sold out of their friday release day of)

Yup but I have no need to go out as of yet so distro doesn’t matter to me at this point. I was just saying I was disappointed with their initial announcement not to deliver farther away, as I’d rather order from them than from Magnify (which I think is the only place or one of the only places that can/will deliver to my area when needed).

I get and don't get the delivery thing. It has to be making them money or they wouldn't do it right? But most places are only delivering "locally" anyway so why not just drive up there and save Kane their gas money and time? If they're outside from 12-5 human interaction has to be basically non existent I'm guessing (has there been lines?). I'm sure its fun to order beer and have it delivered but I'm so stir crazy I'd welcome a safe short outing to a brewery for beer. Just talking here to have some conversation. This place has been quiet lately and there's sadly not much to do.

Yeah every so often I think about taking an excursion to do just this. A Kane/Carton trip or some others at some point. As I’ve said, kind of finishing my stash first. Haven’t driven in almost 2 and a half weeks so I’m going a little stir crazy myself - had to jump start one of my cars with the other one the other day when I was trying to run them for a few minutes. I just like to have the option of delivery. Not a big problem in the scheme of things, but then again everything we discuss here is frivolous!

doubtful they're making money via delivery - or at least enough to make it "worth it". most places are just doing a $5 delivery charge; fairly small when you factor in time, gas, insurance, etc.

The point of delivery is to keep people off the roads and inside. As You mentioned Dr. Stiffington - you're looking to do a Carton/Kane trip. A lot of people would do similar. The "Well, i'm already out of the house - perhaps I'll swing by bottleking or shoprite real quick so I don't have to do it another day" mentality. All of a sudden instead of being in 1:1 contact you could come in contact with 5, 10, 20 other people; not to mention plenty of surfaces.

With delivery it's 1:1. Of course the delivery driver is going to come into contact with plenty of people depending on how they do it. Like Other Half - they're dropping and standing back as you pick up your beer; this cuts down that 1:1 contact; delivery driver should also have gloves and something covering their face.

Exactly why I’m hesitant to go to places like Wegmans to get beer. Much rather have a beer delivery like we had for groceries. But if I decide to go out for beer, stopping by the parking lot of a brewery seems a safer bet.

damn i've had tough luck trying to get groceries delivered the last week or so. no amazon fresh openings, no peapod, no shoprite.

I think so far Troon has had the "safest" brewery pick up. Twin Elephant is doing a good job with their time slots too. but yea, delivery is nice. I can see myself sticking to delivery services in the coming week(s). Fortunately I'm in range for both Untied and Twin Elephant (and magnify). I should stop being lazy and brew up some beer - would be way cheaper in the long run.

I actually thought about Brewing again as well. Haven’t done that in a few years. Sill have to have the stuff delivered then.

I liked the order ahead pick up thing places are doing. Kane is too far for me usually these days but being able to just show ID and have them put your order for you to grab with zero interaction seems good too.

They could also be attempting to just lose less money than they would have, not necessarily trying to make a ton of profit.

My assumption is that they want to trial run everything and will expand slightly further once they get it rolling, been what Kane has done from the get go. Magnify, IMO, likely has some of the beers sit longer and wants to get them out sooner. Additionally they have 3-4 new beers every week, so they trying to deliver to more of the state is likely just to get the stock out the door and I don't they have have as many options going retail as Kane is sending now. Also don't know the minimum buy of Kane vs Magnify either.
All these places make substantially less beer and have substantially less capacity. Their releases likely yield much lower case counts than Kane does that enables them to sell it out quicker, now that foot traffic at a place like Kane is nonexistent. Also some of these places are releasing a single option once a week if that, so people are rushing to get it, versus knowing Kane will be at your local store and the brewery substanially longer

I wonder if they and other breweries will start having more and more new cans each week. With anything that used to be keg bound I assume is can bound now as long as a label is approved and made? Just guessing

Following these breweries on IG, I’m definitely seeing places turning towards canning more of their beers than they ever have (if they’re able) and/or putting everything else in crowlers (if they’re able). Fastest/only way to move it now.

fortunately for a good chunk of breweries in NJ - label approval isn't necessarily needed for packaged beers sold in-state; only if they cross state lines.

Picked up First Reef and Coastal Plain last friday from Wegmans in woodbridge. Both were great. Coastal Plain had this fantastic buttery like taste to it. Definitely a great crispiboi whereas FR felt like more of a session IPA with a really good flavor behind it.

I picked up Blue Hotel and Morning Bell 2020 from the same spot today. I was underwhelmed by Blue Hotel. It was lacking in flavor vs what I had before. I'm gonna crack open the Morning bell this saturday so I'll update this thread.
