Would have liked some sbx ddh party wave but didn't stop me from getting 4 cases of cans... no telling when they'll be back around for sure and i'd rather have a stockpile for the next month then none

now for tonewood to start delivery

Haha. True. Grass is always greener. Plus I’m only like 15 mins from Philly, 40 mins from Tired Hands which is easier to digest than 1 hour and change to Kane, closer to 1.5 hrs to Carton. Could be worse I suppose.

FYI, I read a comment on IG that says Mt. Laurel Wegmans has SBX, First Reef and Blue Hotel.

Agreed on Tonewood. I was thinking of grabbing some freshies, fuego and saison this weekend with their contactless pickup deal

I used to live smack dab in the middle of middlesex county, but I recently (last year) moved to Monmounth. I am 10 (or less) from Source and the Colts Neck Distillery, 20 from Carton, 20-25 from Kane depending on time of day. I used to be like 15-20 further from Kane before. It was real nice pre COVID to be able to shoot down and grab something with minimal drive. I am lucky to be in the delivery zone as well. And for you who browse more the this thread here, know my GF is 10 mins from OH. My situation, in normal times, is really outstanding in terms of local beer and I totally took for granted the ease I had at grabbing beer from several really good breweries every weekend. It's something I will not forget once things return to some semblance of normality.

    how's that commute to bk?

jealous of your brewery adjacent location. outside of Twin Elephant/Untied - any good brewery is at least 30 minutes (conclave), 45 (best case scenario - OH), 50-1h on a good day (Carton/Kane/Source). Summer months it almost makes more sense to just drive to EQ than to Kane from a time perspective.

from where I was living it was 30ish door to door to get to my GFs, an extra 5 mins if I was going straight to OH. From my house now its about 45 mins to get to her, usually I live from work though and thats about 50 to an hour depending on traffic. Not terrible and part of my family is from Brooklyn, so I grew up going there often and got used to the drive

Me neither. At $20/4pk too. I think they were smart to sell cans they way they did though even before the COVID hysteria. There stuff is fine but I bought 2 cans from them a couple months ago and wished I didn't. Not that it was bad but just there's so much better stuff out there, even without taking the price into account

It’s especially crazy when you think that if most of these people are frantically ordering $20 Source beer before it sells out and then going to pick them up, why not just go to Kane (15 minutes away) and get better and cheaper beer?

They do a lot of milkshake IPAs? I don't know. Only tried their main IPA once, which was good but nothing special. Probably take a fresh Wrench over it, certainly a party wave. But yeah they seem to do a lot of fruit stuff, so who knows? Also what's their can run vs Kane?

Yout must be by me. I am in Morristown and I am bascially between TE and Magnify. Have made the Trek out to Muckracker as well and really enjoyed their beer although the tap room leaved something to be desired.

Source still blows me away. Their beers are good but not sell out that fast good. I think that area just has people with much more disposable inclome.

Source of Hoppiness is okay, I'd take Head High at a better price any day. They are charging OH prices and are no where near the quality. I tried one of the Ultra beers at the Asbury Biergarten and it was not good IMO.

Yeah, for them opening under the notion of a farmhouse brewery, we see very little of that style and from what I can tell very little local ingredient in the product (unless they just don't disclose whats in it). I didn't have Ambrosia Milkshake, which was the highest rated prior to the Mango one last week, but i had the second highest rated twice and to me it tasted like muddled beer with no distinct flavor. They have their clientele who are going to spend the money because they have it and are not "craft" beer people and don't see the discernible difference. They, like a lot of the smaller/newer breweries in NJ have the same problem, COVID-19 aside, they rushed to can and sell that way and started making all these different beers and have yet to really dial in their core beer IMO. I'll end my complaining now b/c I've aired my complaints enough in their own thread previously lol

What stood out for me the most at the Source was their Dry Hopped Saison (shortly after opening) and theirs Pills (during Oktoberfest). Their IPAs are okay but nothing earth shattering.

Because their target audience isn't actual beer drinkers. Their target audience is rich demographic that doesn't care about beer or the taste, they care about trends and spending money.

Oh I know that and that's why they get very minimal support from me. Although you'd have to think that the "new" factor is attributing to a lot of the hype in the first year and is that sustainable on avg beer?

Edit: I saw your prior post and I will say one of the Pilsners I had was pretty good, I don't know if it is the same one you are mentioning.

it is funny that a brewery that's a farmhouse and takes pride in all their special lagering tanks just pushes out subpar hazies.

Cool place to hang out in the warmer months when you get there at opening before it's overrun with toddlers though.

Nailed it on this comment. I think that's the biggest issue with new breweries opening up. They'll say what they think is true, but it's far from it. Like opening a "farmhouse brewery" and making trendy beer to pay off the expensive farmhouse remodel. It's become very, very evident that people are not opening breweries because they believe in their beer, but because it's a financial opportunity.

anyone else really not impressed with the BA sunday brunch series? they seemed way too light, overcarbed, and the vanilla cognac tasted like artificial metal. Also had the maple wood evening bell and it was ok but still overcarbed and meh.

not at all trying to bash kane, sunday brunch is one of my favorite beers, just feel like the recent barrel aged releases have really disappointed.

I always thought the non-BA Sunday Brunch was superior to any of the barrel ones.

Sad to hear that's still the case. I held off on this recent set because of past experience. At least regular SB is still HOT FIYA
