My first ddh was very good. The other 3 cans had buttery diacetyl notes and were undrinkable. As a longtime fan/customer, I was severely disappointed.

I had the whole set and cookie jar superstar on Sunday. I personally think this set this year is one of their best. The coconut cream pie variant is dead on, its unreal. They are all super smooth drinkers. The base ANTEAD was solid as usual.

Cookie jar super star was like drinking an Oreo cookie. Easiest way to describe it.

There's no way that site is built for ANTEAD demand in mind, but seems up now. Sold out of course if ANTEAD though.

By the way, any point in driving there for 1130/12? I have to imagine people are parked in their lot already. Pleasant half day for me, so I can't fathom driving a whole hour or so each way to come up empty.i guess good luck to those that are a tad closer or just don't mind driving there right now and sitting in their car a few hours. But hey maybe I'm wrong?

i would say 50/50 shot. I would assume they keep more for onsight then delivery, also i can see them keeping a specific amount to release per day...

at the least you can jump into asbury and get some food to go from some of their restaurants

Out of curiosity after I saw these posts and I checked their site. A non adjunct base bottle costs the same as the other ones?

Do you think base antead will be sold out by 6:00 p.m.?

Seems to be as simple as $88/4.

I find it more telling that the pastry bottles sold out before the regular.

My friend just texted me that they have base and vanilla on site. No line.

2 Bottle Limit of each variant on site. Vanilla and Base is all that’s left.

I haven't opened this years, so I can't comment on them, but I don't know if I'd consider something like the Double Chocolate a pastry stout, maybe some of the others?

I feel like the traditional ANTEAD variants aren't really pastry style stouts. The Vanilla or Cacao variants are nowhere near as cloying as a run of the mill pastry stout

While I understand your sentiment, largely because "pastry stout" is a more recent phrase, any beer that adds pastry ingredients (vanilla, chocolate, coconut, let alone marshmallow and the further down the line of absurdity) counts as a pastry style to me. It doesn't have to be cloyingly sweet (that's really a bad beer no matter the style) and it's not a knock against it--many are quite well done and help enhance the barrel qualities--but ultimately they're not letting the barrel or beer speak for itself.

I don't think "pastry" should be seen as a pejorative, but if it is, for the most egregious offenders, I usually refer to them as pastry sludge stouts. Ironically, I've found some of the most renowned beers by the most highly regarded breweries to be the sweetest, most gelatinous of them all, like BA Sump and Coffee Shop Vibes. Particularly in actual side by side comparisons versus other beers by breweries who are known as pastry factories, like Fionn or Sloth Love Coffee, which I found deliciously pastry-rific, yet at the same time more balanced.

Yeah I think it is a slippery slope with these types of beers. Clearly breweries were treating stouts well before this craze ever really got over hyped, and most of those beers (at the time) were really good expressions of the base beer with an adjunct added in, like in the case of ANTEAD. But a lot of places have started to move some of those traditional offerings into more of a realm of what is really driving hype recently, which for me is a step back. I don't need a beer that was brewed with cheesecake or something ridiculous. I've liked some of the pastry style stuff I have had but most of them are getting too sweet for me to want to buy a full bottle of. Maybe I am just getting old lol. Its weird because I have a big sweet tooth when it comes to desserts and such, but I just can't get behind beers that are too sweet.

Hoping this years ANTEAD doesn't tip over past the too sweet line for me, but I guess we will see.

I agree with all of that.

I think ultimately what my original point was is that it's clear that the broader general demand is for the flavor-added variants. That's despite those of us in this admittedly smaller community openly advocating and praising well made, clean, unadulterated non-adjuncted barrel aged stouts for emulating certain flavor characteristics well via the barrel, like vanilla, coconut ,caramel, etc, instead of added ingredients.

With that in mind, I hope they continue to release their stellar non-adjuncted BA brews, as they are second to none and often the best of the bunch. At the same time I'm not ashamed to say I loved 3288 (oops!).

Missed on eventbrite. Saw the post this morning here and had to cancel a few meeting to get up there at 1145 expecting a line. Was pleasantly surprised to find that they were already selling bottles and there was no line! They started the day with chocolate but were limiting that to 1 per so definitely wasn't much of that to start.

Would have been happy just getting a bottle of regular but extremely pleased to have a bottle of all but coconut!

I’m just gonna call BS when I see it, to charge the same amount for a beer that is cheaper to make is just that.

Obviously most people don’t care because they’ll buy it anyway. I’m curious how much they could charge. Do you have a limit on what you personally would pay for a beer like this?
